First-Order Vortex Lattice Melting and Magnetization of YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-\delta}

open access: yes, 1995
We present the first non-mean-field calculation of the magnetization $M(T)$ of YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-\delta}$ both above and below the flux-lattice melting temperature $T_m(H)$.

Boninite and Harzburgite from Leg 125 (Bonin-Mariana Forearc): A Case Study of Magma Genesis during the Initial Stages of Subduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Holes drilled into the volcanic and ultrabasic basement of the Izu-Ogasawara and Mariana forearc terranes during Leg 125 provide data on some of the earliest lithosphere created after the start of Eocene subduction in the Western Pacific.

Voluminous magma formation for the 30-ka Aira caldera-forming eruption in SW Japan: contributions of crust-derived felsic and mafic magmas

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
Understanding the origin, assembly, and evolution of voluminous magma that erupts in catastrophic caldera-forming eruptions (CCFEs) is a community imperative. A CCFE of the Aira caldera at 30 ka discharged over 350 km3 of magma, which can be grouped into

Shock-induced melting of MgSiO_3 perovskite and implications for melts in Earth's lowermost mantle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
New shock wave equation of state (EOS) data for enstatite and MgSiO_3 glass constrain the density change upon melting of Mg-silicate perovskite up to 200 GPa. The melt becomes denser than perovskite near the base of Earth's lower mantle.

Commensurate-Incommensurate transition in the melting process of the orbital ordering in Pr0.5Ca0.5MnO3: neutron diffraction study

open access: yes, 2001
The melting process of the orbital order in Pr0.5Ca0.5MnO3 single crystal has been studied in detail as a function of temperature by neutron diffraction.

Variable Upper Mantle Geochemical Processes Constrained From Independent Component Analysis of the Fizh Massif, Northern Oman Ophiolite

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
We statistically analyzed the whole‐rock compositions of peridotites in the Oman ophiolite using a multivariate statistical technique called independent component analysis (ICA) to better understand the processes within the ophiolitic mantle section that

Subvolcanic petrology of the Pico dos Três Estados region (SE Brazil): Implications for Alkaline Magmatic Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Geology
This paper presents a geological study of the subvolcanic bodies present in the Pico dos Três Estados (São Paulo (SP), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), and Minas Gerais (MG)) and its surroundings at the Passa Quatro Alkaline Complex.

Direct observation of melting in a 2-D superconducting vortex lattice

open access: yes, 2009
Topological defects such as dislocations and disclinations are predicted to determine the twodimensional (2-D) melting transition. In 2-D superconducting vortex lattices, macroscopic measurements evidence melting close to the transition to the normal ...

"Early partial melting" in annealed natural cordierites

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Mineralogy, 2002
Natural cordierite crystals with a range of Mg:Fe ratios have been annealed at a range of temperatures between 1200 and 1430°C (under controlled f o2 ), after previously being annealed at 900 °C to drive off any volatiles contained within their channels. Complex microstructures were observed in these samples by transmission electron microscopy.

Pressure-temperature conditions and significance of Upper Devonian eclogite and amphibolite facies metamorphisms in southern French Massif central

open access: yesBSGF - Earth Sciences Bulletin, 2020
The southwestern French Massif central in western Rouergue displays an inverted metamorphic sequence with eclogite and amphibolite facies units forming the top of the nappe stack.
