Carboniferous and Permian magmatism in Scotland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Extensional tectonics to the north of the Variscan Front during the Early Carboniferous generated fault-controlled basins across the British Isles, with accompanying basaltic magmatism.

Stability and isotopic dating of monazite and allanite in partially molten rocks: examples from the Central Alps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We investigated the stability of monazite and allanite as a function of bulk rock composition within several types of Tertiary Alpine anatexites, characterized by different compositions and melting reactions, but similar P-T conditions of melting.

Valence Bond Solids and Their Quantum Melting in Hard-Core Bosons on the Kagome Lattice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Using large scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations and dual vortex theory we analyze the ground state phase diagram of hard-core bosons on the kagome lattice with nearest neighbor repulsion.

Olivine crystallographic control and anisotropic melt distribution in ultramafic partial melts [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1998
In the upper mantle, physical properties (permeability, electrical conductivity, and seismic velocity) are highly dependent on the melt geometry. Both flat and curved melt interfaces exist in olivine‐basalt partial melts. To further understand anisotropic wetting behavior of partial melting within the mantle, crystal orientation studies have been ...

Melt extraction from partially molten peridotites

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2003
We measured the rate of melt extraction from partially molten olivine aggregates into a porous reservoir as a function of melt content (ϕ), melt viscosity, grain size, and pressure difference. Samples were prepared using mixtures of olivine and either lithium silicate, MORB glass, or albite glass to obtain a range in melt viscosities.

Optimum pinning of the vortex lattice in extremely type-II layered superconductors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The two-dimensional (2D) vortex lattice in the extreme type-II limit is studied by Monte Carlo simulation of the corresponding 2D Coulomb gas, with identical pins placed at sites coinciding with the zero-temperature triangular vortex lattice.

What controls partial melting in migmatites? [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, 1988
Abstract The layers of six stromatic migmatites from Northern, Western, and Central Europe display small but systematic chemical and mineralogical differences. At least five of these migmatites do not show any signs of largescale metamorphic differentiation, metasomatism, or segregation of melts. It is concluded, therefore, that the compositional

High-pressure Partial Melting of Mafic Lithologies in the Mantle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We review experimental phase equilibria associated with partial melting of mafic lithologies (pyroxenites) at high pressures to reveal systematic relationships between bulk compositions of pyroxenite and their melting relations.

Thermal Modeling of Metal Powder-Based Selective Laser Sintering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In order to get a better understanding of Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) process of the metal powders, three-dimensional modeling of laser sintering of a metal powder mixture that contains two kinds of metal powder with significantly different melting

Melting Relations of MORB-Sediment Mélanges in Underplated Mantle Wedge Plumes; Implications for the Origin of Cordilleran-type Batholiths [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper gives the results of a set of laboratory experiments designed to analyse the petrological implications of mantle wedge plumes—large buoyant structures predicted by thermomechanical numerical modelling of subduction zones.
