Thermodynamic Entropy of Partially Coherent Light Beams
Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1964The thermodynamic entropy of partially coherent light beams, as shown by M. von Laue, is given by the sum of the entropy of the principal waves, which represent the given light beams and are statistically independent of each other. The principal waves and their intensities are respectively the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the mutual intensity ...

On the Propagation of Coherent and Partially Coherent Light
Optica Acta: International Journal of Optics, 1979A comparison is made between the propagation of coherent light from a given field of a given geometry with the propagation of light from an incoherent field with the same geometry. This comparison illustrates the important relationship between the van Cittert-Zernike theorem and the normal diffraction calculation and how the intensity and degree of ...

Coherence of cold atoms trapped by partially coherent light
Optics Communications, 2019Abstract The coherence of cold atom trapped and cooled by the partially coherent light (PCL) is investigated experimentally through Rabi oscillations. We control the degree of the spatial coherence of the laser beams by the modulation of electro-optic crystal. The experimental results show that the cold atoms captured by the different coherent degree

Intrinsic degrees of coherence of partially polarized light
SPIE Proceedings, 2006We address the problem of defining degrees of coherence for partially polarized light. We discuss a new theoretical approach that introduces intrinsic degrees of coherence. These parameters make it possible to separate partial polarization and partial coherence and are measurable quantities.

Spatial correlation properties of focused partially coherent light
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2004We investigate the spatial coherence properties in the focal region of a converging, spatially partially coherent wave field. In particular, we find that, depending on the effective coherence length of the field in the aperture, the longitudinal and transverse coherence lengths in the focal region can be either larger or smaller than the corresponding ...

Radiance Theorem with Partially Coherent Light
Optica Acta: International Journal of Optics, 1986The transmission of a generalized radiance across a planar boundary separating two homogeneous media is considered. It is assumed that the optical field remains continuous at the interface and reflection is neglected. A result is obtained which may be regarded as a generalization of the conventional radiance theorem for fields of any state of coherence.

Power-excitation diffraction tomography with partially coherent light
Optics Letters, 2001Some consequences of using partially coherent fields in the recently proposed method of power-extinction diffraction tomography are analyzed. It is found that the method is very tolerant of short spectral coherence lengths. The spectral coherence length of the field is shown to set the scale of a low-pass filter that acts on the subject.

Linear axicons in partially coherent light
Optical Engineering, 1995With uniform partially coherent illumination of a sufficiently small coherence width, linear holographic axicons produce an extended axial line image of a desired length and a nearly uniform intensity. This result is demonstrated by numerical diffractive simulations based on generalized axicon phase functions and the space-frequency theory of optical ...

Uncertainty principle for partially coherent light
Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1983Two intensity functions are introduced for partially coherent light: one in a space domain and a second one in a spatial-frequency domain. Moreover, a quantity is defined that can be considered a measure of the overall degree of coherence of the partially coherent light.

Propagation of Partially Coherent Light Pulses
Optica Acta: International Journal of Optics, 1986The propagation of light pulses with partial spatial and temporal coherence is analysed. It is shown that the introduction of the second-order coherence function enables the description of both spatial and temporal radiation characteristics to be described in the angular spectrum approach.
