Premixed and Partial Premixed Turbulent Flames at High Reynolds Number

2018
Methane/air premixed and partially premixed turbulent flames at high Reynolds number are characterized using Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) with detailed chemistry in a spatially evolving slot Bunsen configuration. Two sets of simulations are performed. A first set of simulations with fully premixed inlet conditions is considered in order to assess

Triple flames and partially premixed combustion in autoignition of non-premixed turbulent mixtures

Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1996
The present work deals with autoignition of non-premixed turbulent mixtures. The objective is to study the possible role that partially premixed combustion may play in the propagation of ignition. First, a physical picture based on simple considerations and describing the structure of the flame very early after ignition is discussed.

Fuel effects on NOx emissions in partially premixed flames

Combustion and Flame, 2004
Abstract The requirement to significantly reduce NOx and particulate emissions while maintaining combustor performance is one of the main drivers for internal combustion engine research. Partially premixing and using fuel blends represent two promising approaches for reducing both the NOx and the particulate emissions from flames.

Fuel Effect on Combustion Stratification in Partially Premixed Combustion

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2017
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The literature study on PPC in optical engine reveals investigations on OH chemiluminescence and combustion stratification. So far, mostly PRF fuel is studied and it is worthwhile to examine the effect of fuel properties on PPC.

Structure and extinction of heptane/air partially premixed flames

AIAA Journal, 2002
A numerical investigation of the structure and extinction of n-heptane/air partially premixed e ames in a countere ow cone guration is reported. The e ame is computed using a detailed reaction mechanism consisting of 275 elementary reactions and 41 species.

On scalar dissipation and partially premixed flame propagation

Combustion Science and Technology, 2003
Measurements of the scalar dissipation rate in the region immediately upstream of a lifted jet flame are presented. The scalar dissipation is determined in this isothermal region from a planar measurement of a two-dimensional conserved scalar (jet fluid) using laser Rayleigh scattering. Fields of the scalar dissipation rate are presented in addition to

Modeling partially premixed turbulent combustion

2001
This paper investigates the process of partially premixed turbulent combustion in situations where the fuel is provided either as a liquid spray or a purely gaseous stream. In the former case, two-dimensional direct numerical simulations in association with a Lagrangian solver for the dispersed vaporizing phase are employed.

LaminarTriple Flames in Partially Premixed Opposed Flows

Combustion Science and Technology, 1998
Presented is an asymptotic analysis of premixed laminar flames in opposed streams under circumstances of fast chemistry and/or low rates of strain and of high Reynolds numbers. In this case there exist three distinct reaction layers, two premixed and one nonpremixed, the latter centered on the stagnation plane.

Model Predictive Control of Partially Premixed Combustion

2010
Partially premixed combustion is a compression ignited combustion strategy where high exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) levels in combination with early or late injection timing result in a prolonged ignition delay yielding a more premixed charge than with conventional diesel combustion. With this concept it is possible to get low smoke and NOx emissions
