Combustion mechanism of propane-air swirling premixed flame near lean flammability limit

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology
This study investigated a premixed propane-air flame in a partially tapered swirl burner. Experimentally, we found that a flame resembling a morning glory flower formed at an equivalence ratio near the lean flammability limit.

Turbulent partially cracked ammonia/air premixed spherical flames

open access: yesFuel Communications
The combustion of ammonia requires, for most energy conversion systems, a combustion promoter such as hydrogen to guarantee the start-up, stability and combustion efficiency. Partially cracked ammonia (PCA) can provide sufficient hydrogen concentrations to enhance the burning velocity in comparison with pure ammonia.

Improved combustion stability of biogas at different CO2 concentrations using inhomogeneous partially premixed stratified flames

open access: yesGlobal Energy Interconnection
Biogas is a renewable and clean energy source that plays an important role in the current environment of low- carbon transition. If high-content CO2 in biogas can be separated, transformed, and utilized, it not only realizes high-value utilization of ...

Structure of n-heptane/air triple flames in partially-premixed mixing layers

open access: yes, 2011
Results of a detailed numerical analysis of an n-heptane/air edge flame are presented. The equations of a low-Mach number reacting flow are solved in a two-dimensional domain using detailed models for species transport and chemical reactions.

Structure of a partially premixed iso-octane/air turbulent V-flame

open access: yes, 2009
The effect of the equivalence ratio gradient on a partially premixed, iso-octane/air, rod-stabilized turbulent V-flame was studied. Using a uniquely designed rectangular exit burner, the equivalence ratio was varied linearly along the exit of the burner ...

A Method to Measure Flame Index in Turbulent Partially-Premixed Flames. [PDF]

open access: yes
This dissertation describes the development of a diagnostic technique and data processing routine to measure the flame index in partially-premixed flames, called the Flame Index Measurement Method.

Partially premixed flame reactive flow characterization in a bluff body burner [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Paper presented to the 10th International Conference on Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Florida, 14-16 July 2014.The present work aims the characterization of a natural gas/air partially premixed flame (PPF) reactive flow in a bluff ...

Direct Numerical Simulation and Modelling Study of the Structures and Propagation of Partially Premixed Turbulent Flames [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Turbulent partially premixed flames are found in common combustion applications, such as the lifted jet flames in diesel engines. There is less theory surrounding the structure and propagation of turbulent partially premixed flames than for classical ...

Numerical Simulation of Swirl and Methane Equivalence Ratio Effects on Premixed Turbulent Flames and NOx Apparitions

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2016
This paper presents a three dimensional numerical simulation of premixed methane-air low swirl stabilized flames. The computational domain has a simple geometry describing a LBS (low swirl burner) with 50mm of nozzle diameter. RANS Standard κ – ε model

Experimental study of combustion and scalar mixing in swirling jet flows

open access: yes
Turbulent mixing of passive scalar field and combustion of gaseous fuel were studied in the context of a non-premixed isothermal and reacting swirling jets discharged from a swirl-stabilised burner, as a function of swirl number.
