Investigations of Lepton and Baryon Acceleration in Relativistic Astrophysical Shocks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Particle acceleration in mildly relativistic shocks, internal to the main blastwave, may explain the early intensity peaks in gamma-ray bursts and the afterglow may be explained by energetic particles accelerated by the main ultrarelativistic blastwave ...

Kinetic Simulations of Particle Acceleration in Relativistic Perpendicular Electron–Positron Shocks with Proton Admixture

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Particle acceleration in relativistic shocks of electron–positron plasmas with proton admixture is investigated through two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. The upstream plasma, with a bulk Lorentz factor of 10 and a magnetization parameter of 0.

Microstructure‐Controlled Crack Propagation and Fracture Resistance in MoSiBTiC Alloy Revealed by Multiscale Extended Finite Element Method Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Elements of solar activity : particle acceleration and filament formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This thesis studies the acceleration of particles to super-thermal energies in explosive solar events as well as the magnetic changes in connectivity that may be responsible for changes in the morphology of quiescent filaments.

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Particle acceleration in solar flares [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
The most direct signatures of particle acceleration in flares are energetic particles detected in interplanetary space and in the Earth atmosphere, and gamma rays, neutrons, hard X-rays, and radio emissions produced by the energetic particles in the ...
