Advances of dense plasma physics with particle accelerators

Journal de Physique IV (Proceedings), 2006
High intensity particle beams from accelerators induce high energy density states in bulk matter. The SIS-18 heavy ion synchrotron at GSI now routinely delivers intense Uranium beams that deposit about I kJ/g of specific energy in solid matter, e.g. solid lead.

Physical properties of contamination particle traps in a process plasma

Journal of Applied Physics, 1993
This article describes the results of measurements of the plasma parameters, plasma potential Φ, positive ion density n+ , electron density ne, electron temperature Te, and electron energy distribution function (EEDF) f(ε) within and near the electrostatic particle traps in an argon process plasma.

Particle simulation methods in plasma physics

Computer Physics Communications, 1986
Abstract A brief survey of particle simulation methods is presented. Section 2 outlines the particle-mesh (PM) method for collisionless phase fluids. Section 3 describes how PM is extended to make simulation studies of dense plasmas feasible: The particle-particle/particle-mesh (P3M) algorithms reduces the cost scaling to αNp from the αN2p for ...

Plasma-physical aspects of charged-particle beams

Physical Review A, 1981
Areas of interest for charged-particle beams are mentioned, and the classical beam concepts due to Alfv\'en, Lawson, and Bennett are described. From the equation of plasma mass transport the virial theorem of plasma physics is derived and evaluated for rotationally symmetric configurations so as to apply to long particle beams of nonrelativistic plasma

A new scheme for integrating the equations of particle motions in the particle-in-cell method for plasma physics

Plasma imaging for physical variations in laser-induced aerosol plasma with particle size increase

Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry, 2020
Increased analytical signal variation with particle size is a result of physical variations in laser-induced plasma of aerosols.

Theory of Alfvén waves and energetic particle physics in burning plasmas

Nuclear Fusion, 2007
We present an overview on one issue of practical interest for burning plasmas, i.e. whether fast ions and charged fusion products are sufficiently well confined such that they transfer their energy and/or momentum to the thermal plasma without appreciable degradation due to collective modes.

The plasma physics of the Active Magnetospheric Particle Tracer Explorers (AMPTE) mission

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1984
The three-spacecraft AMPTE Mission was due to commence in August 1984. The purpose of these 'active' experiments was firstly to release lithium into the solar wind and to use the lithium ions, formed by photoionisation, as 'test particles' to investigate their crossing of the bow shock, their entry into the magnetosphere and subsequent energisation ...

Space plasma physics: space experiments with particle accelerators.

Science (New York, N.Y.), 2010
Electron and plasma beams and neutral gas plumes were injected into the space environment by instruments on Spacelab 1, and various diagnostic measurements including television camera observations were performed. The results yield information on vehicle charging and neutralization, beam-plasma interactions, and ionization enhancement by neutral beam ...
