GHRHR Deficiency Enhances Retinal Ganglion Cell Survival and Visual Functions in Experimental Glaucoma by Inhibiting Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glaucoma, a major cause of blindness, involves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. This study shows growth hormone‐releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR) deficiency preserves RGC survival and restores vision, unlike activation which only aids survival.

Monotonic loading behavior of calcareous sands with increasing particle crushing

open access: yes, 2020
Calcareous sediment, comprising higher than 50% calcium carbonate by weight, are mostly located between latitudes 30 ͦ S and 30 ͦ N in coastal areas, such as Florida, India, Puerto Rico, and Australia.

Sustainable Materials Design With Multi‐Modal Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Critical mineral scarcity, high embodied carbon, and persistent pollution from materials processing intensify the need for sustainable materials design. This review frames the problem as multi‐objective optimization under heterogeneous, high‐dimensional evidence and highlights multi‐modal AI as an enabling pathway.

One-dimensional dynamic compressive behavior of dry calcareous sand at high strain rates

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2019
Calcareous sand has distinct characteristics in comparison with silica sand, such as dynamic behavior at high strain rates (HSRs). This is closely related to pile driving, aircraft wheel loading and mining activities.

INSTRUMENT FOR DETERMINING CRUSHING STRENGTH OF PARTICLES [PDF]

open access: yes, 1963
An instrument for crushing-strength determinations of uncoated and pyrolytic-carbon-coated fuel particles (50 to 500 mu in diameter) was developed to relate the crushing strength of the particles to their fabricability. The instrument consists of a loading mechanism, load cell, and a power supply-readout unit.

DEM simulations of soil creep due to particle crushing [PDF]

open access: yesGéotechnique, 2013
One mechanism that may contribute to creep in sand is that heavily loaded grains may progressively crush, following the growth of microcracks due to hydrolysis at crack tips. Weibull's statistical model of brittle failure can accommodate these time effects.

Precision Lignocellulosic Biorefinery: Process Regulation From Corn Stover to Products

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a precision biorefinery framework that transforms corn stover into high‐value bioproducts through whole‐process regulation. Mechanical fractionation separates feedstock into parenchyma‐rich short fibers and vascular‐bundle‐dominant long fibers.
