Background 225Ac is one of the most promising short-lived radionuclides for application in targeted alpha therapy (TαT). However, quantitative detection of 225Ac and its daughter radionuclides by γ-spectroscopy has so far been unattainable.

We present a scalable EC/TC hybrid smart window using a DCPE that enables tunable solar modulation (ΔTsol:15–43%), fast electrochromic switching (<90 s), and strong thermal blocking (10–14°C reduction). HPMC improves thermal stability, while an optimized ISL enhances EC performance.

The sensitivity of the Durham mk6 ground-based atmospheric cherenkov telescope to very high energy gamma-ray sources [PDF]
The subject of this thesis is a determination of the sensitivity of the Durham Mk6 ground based Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope (lACT), an instrument which uses the imaging atmospheric Cherenkov technique to detect Very High Energy (VHE) gamma ...

A Spatially Resolved Turbulent Transport Model of the Spectrum and Extension of the Crab Nebula
The Crab Nebula is an exceptional astrophysical laboratory for studying the acceleration, transportation, and radiation of ultrarelativistic particles, since its nonthermal emission extends across the entire electromagnetic spectrum up to the PeV γ -rays.

The liposome nanoreactor method enables uniform metal nanoparticle synthesis using the interior as a reaction environment. We demonstrate that peptide sequences and lipid compositions act as a functional molecular switch to control reaction environments in liposome nanoreactors.

Development of an x-ray excited optical luminescence microscope (XEOM) [PDF]
X-ray excited optical luminescence (XEOL) refers to the trans-visible emission produced as a consequence of X-ray bombardment and provides an alternative detection method for X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). Whereas XAS measured by conventional means

The Search For Pulsar Wind Nebulae in the Very High Energy Gamma-ray Regime [PDF]
The aim of this Thesis is to study the development of pulsar wind nebulae in the TeV regime and in doing so uncover more sources which have as yet not been observed at these wavelengths.

Broad line emission from iron K- and L-shell transitions in the active galaxy 1H 0707-495
Since the 1995 discovery of the broad iron K-line emission from the Seyfert galaxy MCG-6-30-15 (ref. 1), broad iron K lines have been found in emission from several other Seyfert galaxies, from accreting stellar-mass black holes and even from accreting ...
