Particle Physics and Cosmology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In this talk I review the present status of inflationary cosmology and its emergence as the basic paradigm behind the Standard Cosmological Model, with parameters determined today at better than 10% level from CMB and LSS observations.Comment: 12 pages ...

Dark matter and dark gauge fields

open access: yes, 2008
Following the unexpected theoretical discovery of a mass dimension one fermionic quantum field of spin one half, we now present first results on two _local_ versions.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Some theories beyond the Standard Model

open access: yes, 2015
A brief review on the physics beyond the Standard Model is given, as was presented in the High Energy Particle Physics workshop on the $12^{th}$ of February 2015 at the iThemba North Labs.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Minimal radiative neutrino masses

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
We conduct a systematic search for neutrino mass models which only radiatively produce the dimension-5 Weinberg operator. We thereby do not allow for additional symmetries beyond the Standard Model gauge symmetry and we restrict ourselves to minimal ...

Matter inflation with A_4 flavour symmetry breaking

open access: yes, 2013
We discuss model building in tribrid inflation, which is a framework for realising inflation in the matter sector of supersymmetric particle physics models.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Continuum naturalness

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
We present a novel class of composite Higgs models in which the top and gauge partners responsible for cutting off the Higgs quadratic divergences form a continuum.

Detector Development for Particle Physics

open access: yes2023 Austrochip Workshop on Microelectronics (Austrochip), 2023
AbstractIn high-energy physics experiments, tracking and vertexing is nowadays mostly done using semiconductor detectors. Among the employed detectors are hybrid pixel sensors, passive sensors and recently also depleted monolithic active pixel sensors (DMAPS), which integrate the particle sensor with front-end electronics.
