DC conductivity of cellulose nitrate particle track detector

Radiation Measurements, 1994
Abstract Temperature dependence of d.c. conductivity of cellulose nitrate (CN), which is a sensitive nuclear particle track detector, has been studied. Within the temperature range from - 100 to + 100°C, CN is characterized by three activation energies of 0.04, 0.78 and 1.24 eV, respectively, from low to high temperatures.

Reading Dielectric Track Detectors Using Transmitted Particles

IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 1976
A new technique for measuring the number of tracks per unit area in a Dielectric Track Detector uses the energy spectrum of alpha particles transmitted through the detector. The spectrum contains two components. One is a low-energy peak due to alpha particles transmitted through the bulk material.

Track-diameter measurements of alpha particles in diacel plastic track detector

Radiation Effects, 1979
Abstract The diameters of alpha particle tracks in diacel plastic track detectors have been measured by etching the plastics from the reverse side. The influence of annealing, variation in temperature of etchant and different radiations, viz. gamma rays, beta rays, ultraviolet rays, infrared rays and neutrons on the track-diameter has been studied. The

On the optical contrast of particle tracks in nuclear track detectors

Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1976
Abstract A study was made of the optical contrast of alpha-particle tracks normally incident on cellulose nitrate at all the phases of their development. Measurements of the optical contrast of the spots were performed using a microdensitometer. It was found that the maximum contrast corresponds to the point at which the particle reaches the end of ...

A new method of imaging particle tracks in solid state nuclear track detectors

Journal of Microscopy, 2009
SummarySolid state nuclear track detectors are used to determine the concentration of α particles in the environment. The standard method for assessing exposed detectors involves 2D image analysis. However 3D imaging has the potential to provide additional information relating to angle as well as to differentiate clustered hit sequences and possibly ...

Optimization of detector positioning in the radioactive particle tracking technique

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2014
The radioactive particle tracking (RPT) technique is a non-intrusive experimental velocimetry and tomography technique extensively applied to the study of hydrodynamics in a great variety of systems. In this technique, arrays of scintillation detector are used to track the motion of a single radioactive tracer particle emitting isotropic γ-rays.

Mechanism of particle track etching in polymeric nuclear track detectors

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, 1982
Abstract A mechanism of particle track etching in polymers is proposed, which is based on the assumption that a free reaction volume is required for enhanced chemical degradation in a particle track. The free reaction volume ν ∗ is supposed to be formed from the holes with a free volume νf, which were produced in the latent track by ...

Particle tracking with micro-pattern gaseous detectors

2018
GEM und Micromegas zählen zu den mikrostrukturierten Gasdetektoren (MPGDs). Sie zeichnen sich durch intrinsisch hohe Ratenfestigkeit und Ortsauflösung aus, welches durch kurze Driftwege und einen hohen Grad an Segmentierung erreicht wird. Großflächige Micromegas-Detektoren werden deshalb auch Teile des Myonspektrometers des ATLAS-Detektors ersetzen, da

Development of a Triple GEM Detector for Particle Tracking

IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record, 2005, 2006
Results of studies for the feasibility of a triple GEM detector as the inner tracking system of the LHCb inner tracker are presented. This is the first time full scale prototypes of triple GEM detectors have been built. The timing resolution of the triple GEM detector was investigated using a special amplifier. In several beam tests the performances in
