Characterizing the emission trends and pollution evolution patterns during the transition period following COVID-19 at an industrial megacity of central China

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
After the resumption of work and production following the COVID-19 pandemic, many cities entered a “transition phase”, characterized by the gradual recovery of emission levels from various sources.

Aerodynamic size distribution of suspended particulate matter in the ambient air in the city of Cleveland, Ohio [PDF]

open access: yes
The City of Cleveland Division of Air Pollution Control and NASA jointly investigated the chemical and physical characteristics of the suspended particulate matter in Cleveland, and as part of the program, measurements of the particle size distribution ...

Fine particulate capture device [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
To capture fine particulate matter in a gas such as air, a dielectric fluid is directed to the center of whichever face of a rotating disc is exposed to the air flow.

From Lab to Landscape: Environmental Biohybrid Robotics for Ecological Futures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This Perspective explores environmental biohybrid robotics, integrating living tissues, microorganisms, and insects for operation in real‐world ecosystems. It traces the leap from laboratory experiments to forests, wetlands, and urban environments and discusses key challenges, development pathways, and opportunities for ecological monitoring and ...

High aerosol loading over the Bohai Sea: Long-term trend, potential sources, and impacts on surrounding cities

open access: yesEnvironment International
Air pollution over the oceans has received less attention compared to densely populated urban areas of continents. The Bohai Sea, a semi-enclosed sea in northern China, is surrounded by thirteen industrial cities that have experienced significant ...

Particulate matter dynamics

open access: yes, 2012
A substantial fraction of the particulate matter released into the atmosphere by industrial or natural processes corresponds to particles whose aerodynamic diameters are greater than 50 mm. It has been shown that, for these particles, the classical description of Gaussian plume diffusion processes, is inadequate to describe the transport and deposition.

Early Radiation Therapy Response Assessment Using Multi‐Scale Photoacoustic Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tomographic and mesoscopic photoacoustics capture intratumoural features of radioresistance and response. ABSTRACT There is a critical unmet clinical need to identify biomarkers that predict and detect radiation therapy (RT) response in cancer. Using the unique capabilities of multi‐scale photoacoustic imaging (PAI) to depict tumor oxygenation and ...

Events affecting levels of gross alpha and gross beta activities and heavy metals composition of airborne particulate samples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Particulate matter (PM) pollution is a serious environmental issue mainly due to the presence of toxic substances and trace metals in the atmosphere. The association of PM with adverse health effects has been recognized for a long time.

Endogenous “Time Bomb” – Mislocalized Phospholipase A2 as a Critical Mediator of Ultra‐Rapid Mortality in Sepsis and Acute Lung Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phospholipase A2 (PLA2), a dormant enzyme, becomes lethal when activated—collapsing lungs in minutes. Our dual therapy (DOPS + varespladib) boosts survival from 0% to >90% in sepsis/ALI. A breakthrough for acute lung injury treatment. ABSTRACT This study reveals that phospholipase A2 (PLA2), normally stable and nontoxic, can be activated specifically ...
