Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

Partition Statistics for Cubic Partition Pairs [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2011
In this brief note, we give two partition statistics which explain the following partition congruences: \begin{align*} b(5n+4) &\equiv 0 \pmod{5}, \\ b(7n+a) &\equiv 0 \pmod{7}, \text{if $a=2$, $3$, $4$, or $6$}. \end{align*} Here, $b(n)$ is the number of $4$-color partitions of $n$ with colors $r$, $y$, $o$, and $b$ subject to the ...

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tracking replicating HPV genomes in proliferating keratinocytes

open access: yesmBio
Human papillomavirus (HPV) genomes replicate and partition as minichromosomes alongside host chromatin during persistent infection. However, it is difficult to monitor genome dynamics in living cells because the small and compact genome will not easily ...

Elemental Uptake by Calcite Slowly Grown From Seawater Solution: An in-situ Study via Depth Profiling

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2019
Crystal growth rate has not been sufficiently explored to understand element partitioning between calcite and seawater solutions. We investigated the uptake of Li, B, Mg, Sr, and Ba by Mg-bearing calcite slowly grown on a calcite cleavage fragment ...

Power partitions

open access: yesJournal of Number Theory, 2016
In 1918, Hardy and Ramanujan published a seminal paper which included an asymptotic formula for the partition function. In their paper, they also claim without proof an asymptotic equivalence for $p^k(n)$, the number of partitions of a number $n$ into $k$-th powers.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Bayesian and parsimony analyses based on morphological data reveal a new genus of spilomenine wasps (Hymenoptera: Crabronidae: Pemphredoninae) from Australia [PDF]

open access: yesZoologia (Curitiba)
Pemphredoninae are a very large lineage of crabronid wasps with more than a thousand species. In this lineage, the subtribe Spilomenina stand out for containing the smallest apoid wasps and by exhibiting relatively complex social behavior such as female ...

Congener specific organic carbon normalized soil and sediment-water partitioning coefficients for the C1 through C8 perfluorinated alkylsulfonic and alkylcarboxylic acids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Organic carbon normalized soil and sediment-water partitioning (Koc) coefficients were estimated for all C1 through C8 perfluorinated alkylsulfonic acid (PFSA) and alkylcarboxylic acids (PFCA) congeners.
