Abstract The Panel on Plant Health performed a listing of non‐EU viruses and viroids (reported hereinafter as viruses) of Cydonia Mill., Fragaria L., Malus Mill., Prunus L., Pyrus L., Ribes L., Rubus L. and Vitis L. A systematic literature review identified 197 viruses infecting one or more of the host genera under consideration. Viruses were allocated

Pest categorisation of non‐EU viruses and viroids of Cydonia Mill., Malus Mill. and Pyrus L.
Abstract Following a request from the EU Commission, the Panel on Plant Health performed a pest categorisation of 17 viruses and viroids, herein called viruses, of Cydonia Mill., Malus Mill. and Pyrus L. determined as being either non‐EU or of undetermined standing in a previous EFSA opinion.

Complete genome sequence of a novel partitivirus from a wild brassicaceous plant, Arabidopsis halleri [PDF]
Two contigs with high similarity to partitivirus sequences were identified by de novo assembly of sequences obtained by RNA-Seq from a wild brassicaceous plant, Arabidopsis halleri subsp. gemmifera. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of a putative novel partitivirus.

Understanding the dynamics of white-nose syndrome spread in time and space is an important component for the disease epidemiology and control. We reported earlier that a novel partitivirus, Pseudogymnoascus destructans partitivirus-pa, had infected the ...

Pest categorisation of non‐EU viruses and viroids of Vitis L.
Abstract Following a request from the EU Commission, the Panel on Plant Health addressed the pest categorisation of the viruses and viroids of Vitis L. determined as being either non‐EU or of undetermined standing in a previous EFSA opinion. These infectious agents belong to different genera and are heterogeneous in their biology. With the exclusion of

Smaller Fleas: Viruses of Microorganisms
Life forms can be roughly differentiated into those that are microscopic versus those that are not as well as those that are multicellular and those that, instead, are unicellular. Cellular organisms seem generally able to host viruses, and this propensity carries over to those that are both microscopic and less than truly multicellular.

Parallel evolution of picobirnaviruses from distinct ancestral origins
Picobirnaviruses (PBVs) are small, bi-segmented, double-stranded RNA viruses frequently associated with gastrointestinal and recently linked to respiratory infections.

Taxonomic reorganization of family Partitiviridae and other recent progress in partitivirus research
Phylogenetic analyses have prompted a taxonomic reorganization of family Partitiviridae (encapsidated, bisegmented dsRNA viruses that infect plants, fungi, or protozoa), the focus of this review. After a brief introduction to partitiviruses, the taxonomic changes are discussed, including replacement of former genera Partitivirus, Alphacryptovirus, and ...

Widespread endogenization of genome sequences of non-retroviral RNA viruses into plant genomes. [PDF]
Non-retroviral RNA virus sequences (NRVSs) have been found in the chromosomes of vertebrates and fungi, but not plants. Here we report similarly endogenized NRVSs derived from plus-, negative-, and double-stranded RNA viruses in plant chromosomes.

Small RNA-based antiviral defense in the phytopathogenic fungus Colletotrichum higginsianum [PDF]
Even though the fungal kingdom contains more than 3 million species, little is known about the biological roles of RNA silencing in fungi. The Colletotrichum genus comprises fungal species that are pathogenic for a wide range of crop species worldwide ...
