Methodology for Delay-Based Passenger Car Equivalencies for Urban Transit Buses

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2006
A delay-based passenger car equivalent (D-PCE) methodology for stopping transit buses is presented in this paper. It is based on a D-PCE approach developed in 2000. Field data collected at a near-side bus stop in Chicago, Illinois, were used to determine the total additional delay experienced by bus queues and to illustrate the D-PCE methodology.

Development of Passenger Car Equivalents for Basic Freeway Segments

2014
Passenger car equivalents (PCEs) are used in highway capacity analysis to convert a mixed vehicle flow into an equivalent passenger car flow. This calculation is relevant to capacity and level of service determination, lane requirements, and determining the effect of traffic on highway operations.

Measuring the Passenger Car Equivalent of Small Cars and SUVs on Rainy and Sunny Days

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2018
Traffic volume is a fundamental measurement in traffic analyses. In mixed traffic, vehicles vary in size, length, headway, spacing, and acceleration/deceleration. Therefore, if we can categorize the vehicles in mixed traffic in greater detail, the estimated passenger car equivalent (PCE) number will be more accurate.
