A Practical Guide for Harnessing Phylogenomics in Biocontrol: Accounting for Topological Uncertainty and Phylogenetic Distance in the Centrifugal Phylogenetic Method and Beyond. [PDF]
ABSTRACT In the genomic era, phylogenomics is playing an increasingly important role in biological control research for prioritising species in host specificity testing, species delimitation, and elucidating the origins of introduced species. This paper outlines key concepts in phylogenomics relevant to biocontrol practitioners and provides practical ...

Evolution of larval gregariousness is associated with host plant specialisation, but not host morphology, in Heliconiini butterflies. [PDF]
Heliconiini larvae are likely to be in an evolutionary arms race with their Passifloraceae host plants. By analysing larval social behaviour we investigate whether host habitat, leaf defences and leaf size are important drivers of, or constraints on, the evolution of larval gregariousness.

Seeing the wood despite the trees: Exploring human disturbance impact on plant diversity, community structure, and standing biomass in fragmented high Andean forests. [PDF]
High Andean forests play a key role in providing ecosystem services for neighboring urban settlements. Here, we aimed to identify and understand the effects of anthropogenic perturbations on diversity, composition, and structure of plant communities, as well as aboveground biomass in high Andean forest remnants in the hinterland of Bogotá.

Pest categorisation of Selenaspidus articulatus. [PDF]
Abstract Following the commodity risk assessment of Jasminum polyanthum unrooted cuttings from Uganda, in which Selenaspidus articulatus (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) was identified as a pest of possible concern, the European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to conduct a pest categorisation of S.

Passion Fruit (Passiflora spp.) species as sources of resistance to soil phytopathogens Fusarium solani and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. Passiflorae complex [PDF]
The stem rot and fusarium vascular wilt are among the main factors the most limiting the passion fruit cultivation in the State of Mato Grosso. This study aimed to evaluate the resistance / susceptibility of the genus Passiflora species to soil pathogens

Histamine in Brazilian Foods: A Comprehensive Review of Occurrence and Risk Assessment for Intoxication and Intolerance. [PDF]
Even though histamine plays an important role in human health, it has been associated with food intoxication and intolerance episodes. The most relevant, current state of knowledge regarding histamine's biochemical and health aspects is provided. Histamine levels are provided for 17 food groups, including 335 food types and 11,437 samples, allowing ...

Comparing brain morphology across a Panamanian community of Heliconius butterflies, we find evidence for interspecific variation along two axes: heritable divergence in the size of visual brain components, and plastic differences in mushroom body size, a central component of learning and memory systems.
