Energy-balancing passivity-based control
Proceedings of the 2000 American Control Conference. ACC (IEEE Cat. No.00CH36334), 2000Ortega et al. have defined a class of Hamiltonian systems such that the application of passivity-based control (PBC) yields a closed-loop energy which is equal to the difference between the stored and the supplied energies. We call this special class of PBC energy-balancing (EB).

Passive Dynamic Balancing and Walking in Actuated Environments
2020 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), 2020The control of passive dynamic systems remains a challenging problem in the field of robotics, and insights from their study can inform everything from dynamic behaviors on actuated robots to robotic assistive devices. In this work, we explore the use of flat actuated environments for realizing passive dynamic balancing and locomotion. Specifically, we

A Novel Graphene Double-Balanced Passive Mixer
2018 IEEE 13th Annual International Conference on Nano/Micro Engineered and Molecular Systems (NEMS), 2018A four-graphene-field-effect-transistor integrated double-balanced mixer is presented in this paper. With 1.59 GHz and 1.61 GHz frequency input, the mixed signals feature an IIP3 of 12.7 dBm, which benefited from the linearity of graphene field effect transistors (GFETs).

Passivity-based balance control for a biped robot
2011 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2011This paper proposes a balance control method for a biped based on passivity. In this method, we design a controller to stabilize the position of the center of mass (COM), the orientation of the upper body and the motion of the swing leg using the kinematic model of a biped.

On passivity and power-balance inequalities of nonlinear rlc circuits
IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Fundamental Theory and Applications, 2003Arbitrary interconnections of passive (possibly nonlinear) resistors, inductors, and capacitors define passive systems, with power port variables the external source voltages and currents, and storage function the total stored energy. In this paper, we identify a class of RLC circuits (with convex energy function and weak electromagnetic coupling), for

Passive Balancing through Intraday Trading
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2019Transmission System operators actively balance the electricity system by sending a dispatch signal to suppliers of balancing reserve. When market participants take an intentional imbalance position that is opposed to the system imbalance, they can also reduce the required dispatch of balancing reserves. This is called passive balancing.

PABTEC: Passivity-Preserving Balanced Truncation for Electrical Circuits
IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems, 2010We present a passivity-preserving balanced truncation model reduction method for differential-algebraic equations arising in circuit simulation. This method is based on balancing the solutions of projected Lur'e equations. By making use of the special structure of circuit equations, we can reduce the numerical effort for balanced truncation ...

Evaluation of the roles of passive and active control of balance using a balance control model
Journal of Biomechanics, 2009At present there is a lack of consensus regarding the relative roles of passive and active control of quiet upright stance. In the current work, this issue was investigated using two simulation models based on contemporary theories. Specifically, the two models, both of which assumed active control torques to be generated from an optimal neural ...

Passive Dynamic Control and its Application to Balance Servo
Proceedings of the 44th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2006This paper proposes a new servo control method referred to as "passive dynamic control (PDC)," which is based on the analysis of human walking mechanism. The PDC uses the passive balancing method jointly with the active control, and realizes the purpose control and the disturbance suppression control with much less energy and much more safety than ...

A balancing approach to the realization of systems with internal passivity and reciprocity
Systems & Control Letters, 2011The authors propose an approach to the construction of jointly internally reciprocal and passive realizations of positive real and sign symmetric matrices. It is shown that positive real balanced realizations are internally passive and there exists some positive real balanced realization that is internally reciprocal.
