Mid-air haptic rendering of 2D geometric shapes with a dynamic tactile pointer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
An important challenge that affects ultrasonic midair haptics, in contrast to physical touch, is that we lose certain exploratory procedures such as contour following.

Comparison of symptoms and treatment outcomes between actively and passively detected tuberculosis cases: the additional value of active case finding

open access: yesEpidemiology and Infection, 2008
SUMMARYPassive detection of tuberculosis (TB) cases may lead to delay in treatment which may contribute to increased severity of disease and mortality. Active case finding may be an alternative. In a community survey in Cape Town, South Africa, we actively detected 27 bacteriologically positive TB cases and compared those with 473 passively detected TB

Health-care seeking among people with cough of 2 weeks or more in India. Is passive TB case finding sufficient? [PDF]

open access: yesPublic Health Action, 2012
Thirty districts of India. To estimate 1) the proportion of people with cough of ≥2 weeks, 2) those who did not seek care from a health care provider for cough, and 3) their characteristics.A cross-sectional community-based survey in which 4562 people (aged ≥18 years) were interviewed.Of the 4562 individuals interviewed, 437 (9.5%, 95%CI 7.2-11.8) had ...

The Aging Blood: Cellular Origins, Circulating Drivers, and Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
As a conduit linking all organs, the blood system both reflects and actively drives systemic aging. This review highlights how circulating pro‐aging and antiaging factors and age‐associated hematopoietic stem cell dysfunction contribute to immunosenescence and multi‐organ decline, positioning the hematopoietic system as a target for aging intervention.

Computational convergence of the path integral for real dendritic morphologies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Neurons are characterised by a morphological structure unique amongst biological cells, the core of which is the dendritic tree. The vast number of dendritic geometries, combined with heterogeneous properties of the cell membrane, continue to challenge ...

Costs and cost-effectiveness of a comprehensive tuberculosis case finding strategy in Zambia.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
IntroductionActive-case finding (ACF) programs have an important role in addressing case detection gaps and halting tuberculosis (TB) transmission. Evidence is limited on the cost-effectiveness of ACF interventions, particularly on how their value is ...
