Sensitivity analysis and passive control of cylinder flow

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2008
A general theoretical formalism is developed to assess how base-flow modifications may alter the stability properties of flows studied in a global approach of linear stability theory. It also comprises a systematic approach to the passive control of globally unstable flows by the use of small control devices.

Passive Flow Control of Ship Air Wakes

Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 69th Annual Forum and Technology Display, 2013
Passive flow control of ship air wakes was investigated to determine the impact of a solid, notched fence design and to determine the applicability of using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and wind tunnel testing to predict changes in ship air wakes.

Passive Flow Control Applied to a NACA23012 Airfoil In A Subsonic Flow

33rd AIAA Applied Aerodynamics Conference, 2015
Aerodynamic subsonic flows are an important flow regime for the aeronautical/aerospace industry. Recent studies by the author have shown that the use of an active flow control device, that of a localised asymmetrically located synthetic jet, can significantly improve the aerodynamic performance of bluff and streamlined bodies by altering the three ...

Square cylinder with passive flow control

2017
In the present paper it is presented the flow around a 2D square cylinder which is located downstream of a splitter plate and at a certain distance of it. The fluid velocity below and above the splitter plate is different, several velocity ratios are considered, it is interesting to see that the downstream vortex shedding frequency and amplitude highly

Passive feedback control of transonic buffet flow

Physics of Fluids, 2019
The activated structural degree of freedom often causes undesirable large-amplitude structural vibrations in unstable flows, such as the frequency lock-in phenomenon in the transonic buffet flow. The underlying mechanism is the instability characteristic of the system that becomes more complex, namely, further instability on the structural mode because

The development of passive flow control vortices [PDF]

open access: possible, 2004
Surface flow visualisation and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) were used to investigate the flow-field of sub-boundary layer vane vortex generators (VVGs) and steady jet vortex generators (SJVGs) in a separated flow at 20m/s. The vortex generators were mounted on a 2D bump which was situated on the floor of a 350mm by 250mm wind tunnel and had a ...

Passive flow separation control in a vaned radial diffuser

Stability and performance are pursued by the aeronautic industry as market constraints become more compelling. The present study focuses on the implementation of a passive flow control system in the vaned radial diffuser of a centrifugal compressor. The flow control consists of holes in both the hub and the shroud, connecting interblade channels with ...

Study of the passive flow control in aerodynamic devices

2018
To study different passive flow control mechanisms for delay separation and increase the performance of aerodynamic devices by means of CFD techniques. The idea behind flow control is to improve aerodynamic performance of air and ground  vehicles and reduce the drag.

Passive and Active Control of Radiative Heat Flow

2019
Materials that control the absorption and emission of thermal radiation have attracted renewed interest for energy applications. Materials of interest include those with static optical properties that vary with photon wavelength in a desired manner as well as those with dynamic properties that can be actively tuned by external stimuli.
