Processing efficient frame structure for passive optical network (PON)

Optical Switching and Networking, 2018
Abstract The time division multiplexed (TDM) based passive optical networks like GPON/XGPON and EPON/10G-EPON use broadcast mechanism for downstream (DS) communication. This results in any DS frame being received and processed by all optical network units (ONUs), leading to significant processing energy wastage.

Lightwave measurement and characterization in passive optical network (PON)

2009 International Conference on Space Science and Communication, 2009
The objective of this study is to determine and troubleshoot the problems of using handheld optical power meter and optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) for monitoring and troubleshooting a conventional passive optical network (PON) equipped with optical splitter/coupler that used to broadcast optical signals from one fiber to many fibers.

Long-Reach Wavelength Division Multiplexing-Passive Optical Networks (WDM-PONs)

ACOFT/AOS 2006 - 31st Australian Conference on Optical Fibre Technology and Meeting of the Australian Optical Society, 2007
A bidirectional long-reach 64-channel DWDM-PON with 50 GHz channel spacing based on wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser diodes is demonstrated. It consolidates a metro network into an access network by bypassing the central offices within its reach.

Performance analysis of next-generation passive optical network (XG — PON)

2017 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation & USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting, 2017
In this paper, we have simulated and evaluated a XG-PON architecture performance based on ITU-T recommendations. It's a promising technology for Triple play as well as for the quadruple play application. The upstream and downstream links was analyzed along with the possibilities of reachability extension and last-mile flattening were evaluated.

Optical Network Unit (ONU) Power Saving in Time Division Multiplexed Passive Optical Networks (TDM-PONs)

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2014
We review power saving in TDM-PONs and propose a mechanism to save the ONU power consumption with backward compatibility. Evaluation results show our proposal reduces ONU receiver power consumption as compared with G-PON and BiPON.

Candidate modulation schemes for next generation-passive optical networks (NG-PONs)

High Capacity Optical Networks and Emerging/Enabling Technologies, 2012
Various approaches have been developed for next generation passive optical networks (NG-PONs) in order to achieve higher data rates, larger counts of wavelength channels, and longer fiber ranges. Several modulation formats together with electronic based digital signal processing (DSP) implementations have been investigated in order to optimally design ...

Capacity and delay analysis in Passive Optical Networks (PONs) - A review

International Journal of Advances in Computing and Information Technology, 2012
The dramatic increase of internet users and development of new high volume internet applications has a profound impact on design of next generation passive optical network (NG-PON). Today, most of the available networks are quite busy networks and as the number of nodes increases in the network, the communication over the network also increases.

Analysis of dense wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (DWDM-PON)

2017 International Conference on Communication and Signal Processing (ICCSP), 2017
The 32 channels dense wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (DWDM-PON) link is designed with the reach of 40km and 1:32 passive power splitter. A downstream wavelength modulated at the peak data rate of 10Gb/s and each upstream wavelength modulated at the rate of 2.5Gb/s.

Bandwidth Allocation Methods in Passive Optical Access Networks (PONs)

2010
Passive Optical Networks (PONs) are very suitable architectures to face today’s access challenges. This technology shows a very cost saving architecture, it provides a huge amount of bandwidth and efficiently supports Quality of Service (QoS). In PON networks, as all subscribers share the same uplink channel, a medium access control protocol is ...
