Passive Optical Network (PON) Technologies in FTTH Implementation

Indonesian Journal of Electrical Engineering and Electronics
The development of high-speed internet service needs encourages the implementation of fiber optic-based network technology, especially Fiber To The Home (FTTH). Passive Optical Network (PON) technology is the main foundation in providing this service, with various variants such as EPON, GPON, XG-PON, and NG-PON2.

Capacity and Delay Analysis of Next-Generation Passive Optical Networks (NG-PONs)

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2011
Building on the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) and Gigabit PON (GPON) standards, Next-Generation (NG) PONs (i) provide increased data rates, split ratios, wavelengths counts, and fiber lengths, as well as (ii) allow for all-optical integration of access and metro networks.

Optical Network Unit (ONU) Power Saving in Time Division Multiplexed Passive Optical Networks (TDM-PONs)

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2014
We review power saving in TDM-PONs and propose a mechanism to save the ONU power consumption with backward compatibility. Evaluation results show our proposal reduces ONU receiver power consumption as compared with G-PON and BiPON.

Bandwidth Allocation Methods in Passive Optical Access Networks (PONs)

2010
Passive Optical Networks (PONs) are very suitable architectures to face today’s access challenges. This technology shows a very cost saving architecture, it provides a huge amount of bandwidth and efficiently supports Quality of Service (QoS). In PON networks, as all subscribers share the same uplink channel, a medium access control protocol is ...

Study of Passive Optical Network (PON) System and Devices

2014
The fiber-to-the-x (FTTX) has been widely investigated as a leading access technology to meet the ever growing demand for bandwidth in the last mile. The passive optical network (PON) provides a cost-effective and durable solution. In this thesis, we investigate different aspects of the PON, in the search for cost-effective and high-performance designs
