Novelty detection in passive sonar systems using a kernel approach

2017 13th International Conference on Natural Computation, Fuzzy Systems and Knowledge Discovery (ICNC-FSKD), 2017
In naval warfare operations, several techniques have been developed for passive sonar signal detection and classification. Sonar systems operate over very noisy conditions and, in modern warfare scenario, it might be necessary to classify ships that were not available for the classifier training process.

A Passive Sonar System for Searching Acoustic Beacons in Deep Sea

OCEANS 2007, 2007
Authors developed a passive sonar system for searching rocket boosters with acoustic beacons, which will be launched by JAXA with H2A rocket, detached from the rocket, and sink under deep sea. The system consists of an underwater unit that can be operated at 6500 m deep and an onboard unit with signal processing and display functions.

Efficient Decimation Filter Design for Lofargram Analysis in Passive Sonar Systems

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2006
A new class of low-sensitivity decimation filters based on the polyphase decomposition of infinite impulse response (IIR) transfer functions is proposed. The design approach makes use of optimized positioning of poles and zeros so that transfer functions having unequal numerator and denominator orders are obtained.

An Introduction to Adaptive Processing in a Passive Sonar System

1977
In a sonar system the carrier frequencies and system bandwidths are such that, taken together with the rapid reduction in size and cost of computer components, complicated signal processing in real time becomes viable.

Distributed multi-target tracking in clutter for passive linear array sonar systems

2017 20th International Conference on Information Fusion (Fusion), 2017
In a Y-shaped passive linear array sonar (PLAS) system, three sensor legs are configured and report bearings-only measurements, which are complicated due to bearing-ambiguity. As many ghost targets exist, multi-target tracking using a PLAS system is a challenging problem, especially when target miss-detection and clutter are also considered.

Design and implementation of passive sonar system based on gigabit ethernet

2012 International Conference on Computer Science and Information Processing (CSIP), 2012
A novel array system architecture is proposed to satisfy the need of new technology revolution in this paper. Cascaded Switched Ethernet based data link is used to acquire data. The implementation of the prototype is discussed in detail and the scheme's feasibility is verified by the lake trial results.

Gray relativity analysis used to track association in passive sonar system

2017 4th International Conference on Systems and Informatics (ICSAI), 2017
Data association of multisensor multitarget is a very difficult problem in passive system. For the “combination explosion” problem of static data association, many researchers have presented many solutions such as the least distance method and the maximum likelihood method.

Research on multi-target bearings-only tracking method based on passive sonar systems

2017 IEEE 2nd Advanced Information Technology, Electronic and Automation Control Conference (IAEAC), 2017
This paper proposes a real-time multi-target tracking method for passive sonar systems based on bearing time record (BTR). Extremum detection and logical data association algorithm are employed in the method to detect and process the beginnings, tails, crossings and missing sections of tracks.

Implementation of adaptive processing schemes in active and passive sonar systems

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1996
This paper details the implementation of adaptive processing schemes with near-instantaneous convergence in integrated active–passive sonar applications. The adaptive schemes of this investigation include a generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC), a coherent broadband adaptive algorithm based on a multiple steered covariance matrix and the MVDR method ...

A particle filter based track-before-detect procedure for towed passive array sonar system

2017 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarConf), 2017
Passive sonar has been widely researched and used in underwater target tracking for its high covertness. In this paper, the detection and tracking of an unknown and time-varying number of targets for a towed sonar system is considered. To enhance the detection and tracking performance, a track-before-detect (TBD) based signal processing method is ...
