Passivization of EM PEEC solutions in the frequency and time domain
The stability issues for time domain integral equations is well known and it has been investigated for a long time. In this paper, we pursue an approach for the stabilization and even passivization of the electromagnetic solutions in the time and ...

Perlmutter and Postal (1977 and subsequent) argued that passives cannot passivize. Three prima facie counterexamples have come to light, found in Turkish, Lithuanian, and Sanskrit. We reexamine these three cases and demonstrate that rather than counterexemplifying Perlmutter and Postal's generalization, these confirm it.

Passivization, reconstruction and edge phenomena: connecting English and Japanese nominalizations [PDF]
We establish surprising effects of scope freezing in English nominals that are unambiguously passive, and show parallels with scope freezing in Japanese sa 'extent' nominals.

Passivity analysis and passivation of feedback systems using passivity indices
2014 American Control Conference, 2014Passivity indices are used to measure the excess or shortage of passivity. While most of the work in the literature focuses on stability conditions for interconnected systems using passivity indices, here we focus on passivity and passivation of the feedback interconnection of two input feed-forward output-feedback (IF-OF) passive systems.

Passivity control of a passive haptic device
2004 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37566), 2005In this paper, we propose an energy-based stability control of a passive haptic device equipped with passive actuators such as an electric brake. Unstable behavior is observed even in the passive haptic system due to time delay mainly arising from the slow update rate of the virtual environment.

Are “Passive” Extension Exercises Really Passive?
Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy, 1994When rehabilitating patients with back dysfunction, extension exercises that are presumably "passive" for the erector spinae muscles are frequently used. The purpose of this study was to record electromyographic (EMG) activity from back extensor muscles to determine if these muscles are truly inactive during these maneuvers.
