Abstract Motivated by developments on differential Lyapunov functions for contraction analysis in Forni, Sepulchre (2012) we propose a definition of differential passivity, based on the geometric framework of the prolongation of a nonlinear system in Crouch, van der Schaft (1987). We explore the ramifications of this definition and its potential uses.

Different materials reflect light in different ways, so reflectance is a useful surface descriptor. Existing systems for measuring reflectance are cumbersome, however, and although the process can be streamlined using cameras, projectors and clever catadioptrics, it generally requires complex infrastructure.

Passivity and Breakdown of Passivity
1982Some metals and alloys form a film with special properties when interacting with a corrosive environment. The formation of this film results in a metal surface becoming resistant (passive) to corrosive attack. This phenomenon of passivity underlies the successful use of non-noble metals in all the industries that support every modern society; the ...

The passival and the progressive passive
2004Grammaticalisation of the progressive aspect and passive voice in English began in the Old English period; yet, the spread of the new patterns to all syntactic environments took several centuries. A fairly recent phenomenon is the co-occurrence of the progressive aspect and the be-passive. When the new form was first used in the late eighteenth century,

Résumé Cet article a pour but d’étudier certains passifs « atypiques ». Nous définissons ces passifs comme étant des extensions d’une matrice fondamentale correspondant à un passif prototypique. Cette étude comprend un examen des passifs prépositionnels, de la passivation des intransitifs et de la voix moyenne.

After having been acquainted with the historical development of euthanasia, the following steps for assitance in dying, called passive euthanasia are being discussed. a) Assistance during dying without speeding up death is the self-evident duty of a doctor.

There are two ways in which the quantity of money may be included in a general equilibrium system: as a datum, whose value is fixed exogenously, or as an unknown, whose value is determined by the equilibrium system itself. Let them be called active money and passive money, respectively. Current monetary theory uses the first approach.
