Negative Stiffness Induced and Controlled by Constriction
Structures with negative stiffness can be stabilized by constriction of external displacement. Furthermore, constriction can make a conventional positive stiffness material exhibit negative stiffness, either bidirectional or unidirectional (shown in the figure).

Abstract In this study, a comprehensive analytical framework is developed to investigate the free vibration behavior of double‐walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) resting on an elastic foundation, based on Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory. The DWCNTs are modeled as two coupled Euler–Bernoulli (EB) beams, explicitly incorporating intertube van der ...

MODES OF VIBRATION OF THE BEAMS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DISCONTINUITY IN FOUNDATION
Vibrations of the Timoshenko beams resting on the Winkler and Pasternak elastic foundation with discontinuity are investigated in this paper. A p-version finite element method that accounts for shear deformation is used.

Study on Impact of Foundation Pit Construction on Surrounding Tunnels Considering Its Shear Effect
It is necessary to assess the pit construction impact on surrounding tunnels. The improved Hermite interpolation difference scheme is used to derive the solution formula. Then, the rationality and applicability of the Timoshenko deep beam model considering the shield tunnel shear effect are verified by analyzing and comparing with the measured data of ...

In this study, the analytical solution of longitudinal dynamics of infinite length tunnel crossing the soil–rock stratum subjected to Rayleigh wave is studied. By introducing the transition zone, a more realistic simulation of the actual mechanical state at the interface between the soil and the rock mass can be achieved.

The excavation process of deep and large foundation pits in cities will inevitably be treated with dewatering, and the excavation and dewatering of foundation pits will cause changes in the free displacement field of surrounding soil, which will further cause uneven deformation of existing tunnels.

This paper is concerned with the torsional vibration of the nanobeam under a longitudinal magnetic field and surrounded by a torsional spring. The small size effect is taken into account by considering the modified couple stress theory of elasticity for continuum mechanics, and the power series method (PSM) is utilized in order to compute the ...
