Strengths and Limitations of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate as an Irritant Control in Patch Testing
Positive SLS reactions occurred in 22% of 43 478 patients and correlated predominantly with irritant‐prone allergens. Thirty‐one of 189 allergen preparations showed significant associations, strongest for cocamidopropyl betaine, formaldehyde, sorbic acid and DPG. A simple positive/negative SLS classification was diagnostically sufficient.
