Genetics of the patella [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Human Genetics, 2019
We review genetic diseases with identified molecular bases that include abnormal, reduced (hypoplasia), or absent (aplasia) patellae as a significant aspect of the phenotype. The known causal genes can be broadly organized according to three major developmental and cellular processes, although some genes may act in more than one of these: limb ...

Knee crepitus and osteoarthritis features in young adults following traumatic knee injury

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective This study explored the association between knee crepitus and the presence, and worsening, of structural osteoarthritis features and self‐reported outcomes in young adults following traumatic knee injury. Methods One‐year following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), 112 participants (41 female participants; median age 28 years)

Biological tribological properties between polyetheretherketone and patella cartilage

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng, 2019
Reciprocating sliding friction and wear tests were carried out on polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and natural patella cartilage using the pin-on-disk configuration at different normal loads, slipping velocity and friction pairs under 25% fetal bovine serum ...

The Influence of Surgical Realignment Procedures on Dynamic Patellar Tracking: A Dynamic Magnetic Resonance Imaging-Controlled Feasibility Study

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2022
Persisting patellar maltracking following surgical realignment often remains unseen. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of realignment procedures on patellofemoral kinematics in patients with patellofemoral instability (PFI) and ...

Mechanically Tunable Bone Scaffolds: In Vivo Hardening of 3D‐Printed Calcium Phosphate/Polycaprolactone Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bone scaffold with osteogenic properties and capable of hardening in vivo is developed. The scaffold is implanted in a ductile state, and a phase transformation of the ceramic induces the stiffening and strengthening of the scaffold in vivo. Abstract Calcium phosphate 3D printing has revolutionized customized bone grafting.

A double patella-like condition secondary to synovial osteochondromatosis

open access: yesSports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Rehabilitation, Therapy & Technology, 2012
To our knowledge, this is the first case of synovial osteochondromatosis in a patient presenting with a double patella-like condition. The true duplication of the patella, which is called double patella, is extremely rare.

Functional insights from an exploration of the inner structure of the patella: new perspectives for the study of the hominin fossil record

open access: yesBulletins et Mémoires de la Société d’Anthropologie de Paris, 2022
This contribution is a short review of the functional significance of the patella in extant catarrhines and extinct hominins and of current functional, adaptive and evolutionary-related questions concerning the fossil hominin record.

Chthonius hungaricus and Larca lata new to the fauna of Slovakia (Pseudoscorpiones: Chthoniidae, Larcidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Chthonius (Chthonius) hungaricus Mahnert, 1980 and Larca lata (Hansen, 1884) were recorded for the first time from Slovakia. The finding of C. hungaricus in Slovakia is the second known record since its description and the finding of L. lata is the first

Revealing the Auxetic Behavior of Biomimetic Multimaterial and Region‐Specific Nanofibrous Fascicle‐Inspired Scaffolds via Synchrotron Multiscale Digital Volume Correlation: Innovative Building Blocks for the Enthesis Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Enthesis injuries are a worldwide healthcare problem. Biomimetic electrospun enthesis fascicle‐inspired scaffolds, with and without nano‐mineralization are developed. Human Mesenchymal Stromal cells (hMSCs) express the most balanced enthesis markers on the non‐mineralized scaffolds.
