Modified Tension Band Wiring Using Only Non-Absorbable Braided Polyblend Sutures for the Treatment of Patellar Fractures

open access: yesSurgical Techniques Development
Patellar fractures represent approximately 1% of all fractures and the pattern is influenced by the quality of the bone and the energy of the trauma. Transverse fractures are associated with extensor mechanism failure and interruption of joint congruence.

Fracture of the Unresurfaced Patella after Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Report of Two Cases

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2009
Patellar fractures are unusual in total knee arthroplasty without patellar resurfacing. We present 2 such cases that occurred within postoperative 2 months and were managed conservatively. Both patients had their knee function preserved.

Non‐anatomical MPFL reconstruction and failure to address relevant pathologies are common reasons for treatment injuries following treatment for patellofemoral instability

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Management of patellofemoral instability (PFI) tailored to the individual patoanatomy can be complex with potential pitfalls. However, reports on complications and suboptimal outcomes remain limited. The aim of this study was to analyse problems related to PFI treatment in Denmark.

Using FiberWire Suture as a Tension Band Technique in Patellar Fracture: Prospective Study

open access: yesMinia Journal of Medical Research
Background: Patellar fractures often require stable fixation to restore knee function. Traditional tension band wiring with metal implants can be associated with complications such as wire irritation or breakage and migration, loss of fixation, and the ...

Concomitant cartilage restoration does not demonstrate consistent additional clinical benefit in medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction: A systematic review

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This review specifically evaluates whether the presence of cartilage lesions, or their surgical treatment, modifies the clinical benefit of medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction. Methods A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses) guidelines ...

Sport participation after isolated distal femoral osteotomy in young patients: High return‐to‐sport rates and predictive role of preoperative activity level

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The present study aimed to assess return to sport (RTS) rate, activity level and return to work (RTW) in young, physically active patients who underwent isolated distal femoral osteotomy (DFO) for lateral knee pain and valgus malalignment.

Study on the therapeutic effect of Kirschner wire tension band combined with anchor cross-stitch technique in the treatment of comminuted patellar inferopolar fractures.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
PurposesFractures of the inferior patellar pole, unlike other patellar fractures, present challenges for traditional surgical fixation methods. This article introduces the clinical technique and outcomes of using Kirschner wire tension band combined with

Evaluating properties of use of mesh plate versus tension band wiring in patients with multifragmentary patellar fracture: A systematic review

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Reports
Background: Patellar fractures account for approximately 1% of all fractures, with multifragmentary fractures representing 55% of surgically treated cases.

Reduced patella medialization in valgus and varus knees using a KA‐optimized femoral component in kinematically aligned TKA

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Patellofemoral complications after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are linked to femoral component design and trochlear alignment. This study compared the effects of a kinematically aligned (KA)‐optimized femoral component versus a standard design on patellofemoral kinematics, contact mechanics and quadriceps function, using native knee ...

Hamstring graft remodelling after ACL reconstruction is slower in paediatric population compared to adults

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are increasing in children and adolescents and reconstruction (ACLR) is now frequently performed in this population. Paediatric patients remain at higher risk of reinjury, possibly due to delayed graft remodelling.
