Total knee arthroplasty combined with medial patellofemoral ligament augmentation using a Leeds-Keio ligament for ‘Windswept deformity’ with ipsilateral valgus deformity and permanent patellar dislocation: A case report and a literature review

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Rehabilitation and Technology, 2021
We present a ‘Windswept deformity’ in patient who had osteoarthritis with a mild varus and very severe valgus with ipsilateral permanent patellar dislocation. An 83-year-old woman could not walk for the past a few years due to bilateral knee pain.

A review of recent perspectives on biomechanical risk factors associated with anterior cruciate ligament injury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
There is considerable evidence to support a number of biomechanical risk factors associated with non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. This paper aimed to review these biomechanical risk factors and highlight future directions relating to ...

Determination of patellar ligament and anterior cruciate ligament geometry using MRI

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Research, 2015
Ligament geometry is crucial to surgical treatment success in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. This study aimed to optimize the MRI technique to elucidate the geometry of the patellar ligament (PL) and ACL in vivo. A 1.5-T superconducting MRI system with a special surface coil and fast spin echo was used to acquire high-resolution T1-weighted ...

In Vitro Evaluation of Hemiarthroplasty Bearing Materials: A Scoping Review (Part I)

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hemiarthroplasty is used to treat joint damage confined to one side, aiming to preserve the remaining healthy cartilage and bone while addressing conditions like femur fractures and osteonecrosis; however, challenges persist due to cartilage wear and inconsistent clinical outcomes.

Combined Soft Tissue Reconstruction of the Medial Patellofemoral Ligament and Medial Quadriceps Tendon–Femoral Ligament

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, 2019
Patellar dislocation is a major orthopaedic concern in pediatric and adult populations, with both conservative and surgical options available. Several surgical techniques of the combined or isolated reconstruction of the medial patellofemoral ligament ...

Choosing an allograft or autograft in orthopedic surgeries for athletes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Athletes and their doctors have the choice of using an allograft or autograft in reconstruction surgeries. The purpose of this study is to see if there is a difference in the healing mechanism and surgical outcome in using an allograft or autograft ...

Enhanced Mid‐Flexion Stability in Cruciate‐Sacrificing Total Knee Replacement: Impact of Optimized Implant Designs Investigated Using Musculoskeletal Multibody Simulation

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Total knee replacement (TKR) is a successful intervention for relieving pain and improving quality of life. In this context, mid‐flexion instability and paradoxical anterior femoral movement remain challenging. However, the role of implant design in cruciate‐sacrificing (CS) scenarios is unclear.
