Therapeutic role of nifedipine in threatened preterm labor: Current evidence and future perspectives

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Preterm birth occurs in approximately 10% of all pregnancies, and is not only the leading cause of neonatal mortality but also a major contributor to short‐ and long‐term morbidities due to immaturity. Preterm birth has also been linked to an increased risk of maternal cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, making it a critical concern ...

What Are the Minimal Feeds Required for Starting Enteral Ibuprofen in Preterm Infants with PDA?

open access: yesPediatric Reports, 2022
Ibuprofen is commonly used for the treatment of hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in preterm infants. It seems that the oral formulation incurs a higher closure rate and has a better safety profile in preterm infants born > 26 ...

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance of cardiac function and myocardial mass in preterm infants: a preliminary study of the impact of patent ductus arteriosus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BackgroundMany pathologies seen in the preterm population are associated with abnormal blood supply, yet robust evaluation of preterm cardiac function is scarce and consequently normative ranges in this population are limited.

Clinical and Genetic Significance of Chromosomal Microarray Screening of Asymptomatic Newborns

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
Among 99 asymptomatic newborns with abnormal low‐resolution chromosomal microarray (LR‐CMA) screening, 70.7% harbored microduplication/microdeletions with syndromic implications. However, only a minority exhibited developmental concerns during early follow‐up, highlighting the need for cautious interpretation.

Fetal Ductal Constriction, Pulmonary Hypertension and Atrial Septum Mobility

open access: yesJournal of Ultrasound in Medicine, EarlyView.
Objectives Fetuses with ductal constriction (FDC), pulmonary hypertension and right ventricular overload after maternal exposure to PGE2 inhibitors—nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or polyphenols (PF)—have increased septum primum excursion index (SPEI), the ratio between maximal septum primum displacement and left atrial diameter.

Large patent ductus arteriosus in an adult complicated by pulmonary endarteritis and embolic lung abscess

open access: yesHeart International, 2011
Patent ductus arteriosus in the adult is an extremely rare clinical phenomenon. We report the case of a 34-year old man who developed pulmonary endarteritis and subsequent embolic lung abscess secondary to a large patent ductus arteriosus.

Yield of Whole Genome Sequencing for Pathogenic Single Nucleotide Variants in Congenital Heart Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This systematic review and meta‐analysis aimed to assess the diagnostic yield of pathogenic or likely pathogenic (P/LP) single nucleotide variants (SNVs) using whole genome sequencing (WGS) in congenital heart disease (CHD). Methods A systematic search of three databases (2000–2024) was conducted, and two reviewers independently ...

High Rate of False Negative Diagnosis of Silent Patent Ductus Arteriosus on the Chest CT with 3 mm Slice-Thickness, Suggesting the Need for Analysis with Thinner Slice Thickness

open access: yesTomography, 2021
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of patent with ductus arteriosus (PDA) based on the availability of pretest information on routine chest CT with 3 mm slice-thickness.
