Meckel's diverticulum causing acute intestinal obstruction: A case series

Abstract Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract. Most cases are asymptomatic and when symptomatic, preoperative diagnosis of MD is poor. Intestinal obstruction, Malena or hematochezia, and inflammation are major symptoms.

Patent Omphalomesenteric Duct

Complete patency of the omphalomesenteric duct is one of the most uncommon presentations of omphalomesenteric related anomalies. We herein present a newborn with a faecal umbilical discharge due to the above-mentioned anomaly. We describe the diagnostic and therapeutic options and the results of a literature review.

ABSTRACT Meckel's diverticulum (MD), the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract, results from incomplete regression of the vitelline duct. Although often asymptomatic, complications occur in 4%–7% of cases, with perforation being a rare but life‐threatening presentation that may mimic other acute abdominal emergencies.
