Entorhinal Neurons Exhibit Cue Locking in Rodent VR

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2019
The regular firing pattern exhibited by medial entorhinal (mEC) grid cells of locomoting rodents is hypothesized to provide spatial metric information relevant for navigation.

Time and Differentiated Integration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
What is the status of time in accounts of differentiated integration? What do theories of integration and Europeanisation have to say about time both as a property of differentiated integration and, in particular, as part of their explanatory accounts ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Short-range homing in camels: displacement experiments

open access: yesBiology Open, 2021
Camels (Camelus dromedarius) are known to have good navigational abilities and can find their home after displacement to far places; however, there are no studies available on the navigational strategies employed by the camels in homing behavior.

Hippocampal representations of homing based on path integration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
The ability to plan and execute a journey to a specific destination is essential for the survival of individuals of different species. Purposeful navigation can be achieved using landmark-based navigation and path integration.

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Observability of Path Loss Parameters in WLAN-Based Simultaneous Localization and Mapping

open access: yes, 2013
Indoor positioning by means of received signal strengths has been gathering much interest since the massive presence of wireless local area networks (WLANs) in buildings.

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...
