Toward Tunable Magnetic Dirac Semimetals: Mn Doping of Cd3As2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dilute magnetic doping of topological semimetals offers a pathway to tune the topological phase via time reversal symmetry breaking. This is achieved by alloying the Dirac semimetal Cd3As2 with Mn via molecular beam epitaxy. Magnetotransport measurements provide preliminary evidence of changes to the electronic structure consistent with the emergence ...

The path towards contact-based physical human–robot interaction

open access: yesRobotics and Autonomous Systems
With the advancements in human-robot interaction (HRI), robots are now capable of operating in close proximity and engaging in physical interactions with humans (pHRI). Likewise, contact-based pHRI is becoming increasingly common as robots are equipped with a range of sensors to perceive human motions.

Solution‐Processed Two‐Dimensional Indium Oxide on Sodium‐Embedded Alumina for Reconfigurable Optoelectronic Synaptic Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Wafer‐scale two‐dimensioanl In2Se3 oxidized into InOx on sodium‐embedded beta‐alumina enables multifunctional reconfigurable electronics. Sodium ions accumulate within distinct spatial distribution under drain‐controlle and gate‐controlled operation. Drain‐control operation gives controllability of ultraviolet‐driven optoelectronic synaptic conductance

Path-following and augmented Lagrangian methods for contact problems in linear elasticity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A certain regularization technique for contact problems leads to a family of problems that can be solved efficiently using infinite-dimensional semismooth Newton methods, or in this case equivalently, primal-dual active set strategies.

Transfer Printing and Reconfiguration of Soft Electronics Using Digital Microfluidics and Laser Machining

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a digital microfluidics‐based technique for transferring and reconfiguring soft nanomembranes. Laser‐machined nanothin membranes are picked up, transported, and aligned via tailored surface tension and the actuation of water droplets, enabling the development of flexible electronics, the integration of functional materials on 3D ...

Noninvasive Analysis of Biological Components Using Simplified Mid-Infrared Photothermal Deflection Spectroscopy

open access: yesSensors
We developed a photothermal deflection spectroscopy (PTDS) system for the noninvasive analysis of biological tissue. This system detects heat induced by irradiation with pulse-modulated mid-infrared light as the deflection of a probe laser.

Electrode and Microstructure Dependence of Oxygen Diffusion in Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Significant nanoscale oxygen diffusion coefficient variations are measured in ferroelectric hafnium zirconium oxide films with grain boundaries and electrode interfaces exhibiting values 104 times larger than the grain cores. Overall coefficients are 10X larger for films prepared with metal nitride electrodes compared to refractory metals. New insights
