Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

Preductal Segmental Tubular Aortic Hypoplasia in Perinatally Died Stabyhoun Puppies

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Background: A high perinatal mortality rate in the Stabyhoun breed prompted one of the Dutch breeding organizations to start an investigation. Preductal segmental tubular aortic hypoplasia is an extremely rarely documented congenital vascular anomaly in ...

Controlling hysteresis in superconducting constrictions with a resistive shunt [PDF]

open access: yesFast Track Communications in Supercond. Sci. Technol. 28 (2015) 072003, 2015
We demonstrate control of the thermal hysteresis in superconducting constrictions by adding a resistive shunt. In order to prevent thermal relaxation oscillations, the shunt resistor is placed in close vicinity of the constriction, making the inductive current-switching time smaller than the thermal equilibration time.

Toward Design Principles for Biomolecular Condensates for Metabolic Pathways

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates are membrane‐less compartments found through‐out nature which can serve as reaction crucibles for biochemical processes. This review explores the design strategies underlying how condensates can be used in biotechnology to enhance multistep enzyme cascades including enhancement by mass action and substrate channeling, and ...

Pupillometry evaluation of melanopsin retinal ganglion cell function and sleep-wake activity in pre-symptomatic Alzheimer's disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BACKGROUND: Melanopsin-expressing retinal ganglion cells (mRGCs), intrinsically photosensitive RGCs, mediate the light-based pupil response and the light entrainment of the body's circadian rhythms through their connection to the pretectal nucleus and ...

Recent Advances in Single‐Atom Catalyst for Solar Energy Conversion: A Comprehensive Review and Future Outlook

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights the potential of single‐atom catalysts in three key photocatalytic reactions: the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), nitrogen reduction reaction for ammonia synthesis, and carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) for chemical fuels.

Transition from positive to negative magnetoresistance induced by a constriction in semiconductor nanowire [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We have studied the magnetotransport through an indium antimonide (InSb) nanowire grown in [111] direction, with a geometric constriction and in an external magnetic field applied along the nanowire axis. We have found that the magnetoresistance is negative for the narrow constriction, nearly zero for the constriction of some intermediate radius, and ...

Low-field quantum Hall transport in an electron Fabry-Perot interferometer: Determination of constriction filling vs front-gate voltage [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 78, 245322 (2008), 2008
We report systematic quantum Hall transport experiments on Fabry-Perot electron interferometers at ultra-low-temperatures. The GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure devices consist of two constrictions defined by etch trenches in 2D electron layer, enclosing an approximately circular island.
