COLLATERAL BENEFITS OF DIABETES SELF-MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATED WITH SELF-ADMINISTERED OUTPATIENT PARENTERAL ANTIMICROBIAL THERAPY [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Self-administered outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (S-OPAT) is a self-care treatment modality in which patients requiring extended courses of intravenous antibiotics are trained to safely self-administer treatment via an indwelling catheter in

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...

Segmenting Preventive Health Behavior: Gender Disparities and Psychosocial Predictors in a Culturally Diverse Italian Region

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Investigation in Health, Psychology and Education
Grounded in health behavior theory, this study examined patterns of preventive health behavior in a culturally diverse, multilingual region of northern Italy using data from a representative population survey (n = 2090).

EEG–fMRI of idiopathic and secondarily generalized epilepsies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We used simultaneous EEG and functional MRI (EEG–fMRI) to study generalized spike wave activity (GSW) in idiopathic and secondary generalized epilepsy (SGE).

Nicotinamide N‐methyltransferase promotes drug resistance in lung cancer, as revealed by nascent proteomic profiling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
AZD9291 has shown promise in targeted cancer therapy but is limited by resistance. In this study, we employed metabolic labeling and LC–MS/MS to profile time‐resolved nascent protein perturbations, allowing dynamic tracking of drug‐responsive proteins. We demonstrated that increased NNMT expression is associated with drug resistance, highlighting NNMT ...

Health literacy and guideline-adherent lifestyle in people with chronic kidney disease: exploring factors associated with usage intention of a structured m-health program and pilot data on actual behavior change

open access: yesFrontiers in Nephrology
BackgroundAlthough medical guidelines for chronic kidney disease (CKD) clearly recommend measures such as blood pressure control, dietary changes, regular physical activity, and consistent medication adherence, individuals frequently encounter challenges

From Patient to Student Activation: Development of the Student Activation Measure

open access: yes, 2016
The Patient Activation Measure (PAM) was constructed to measure a person’s knowledge, skill, and confidence for self-managing one’s healthcare, or “activation” (Hibbard, Stockard, Mahoney, & Tusler, 2004).

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

An Independent Component Analysis Based Tool for Exploring Functional Connections in the Brain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This thesis describes the use of independent component analysis (ICA) as a measure of voxel similarity, which allows the user to find and view statistically independent maps of correlated voxel activity. The tool developed in this work uses a specialized
