Patient therapy outcome modeling in cancer organoids is improved by cancer‐associated fibroblasts and organoid assembly convolution

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived organoids (PDOs) from pancreatic, colorectal, and gastric cancers were used to evaluate standard and experimental therapies. Incorporating cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) into organoid cultures improved patient therapy outcome prediction.

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Robotic Patient Transfer Device

open access: yes, 2020
Due to long hours, stress, and difficult lifting situations, nurses and caretakers become injured and have to take time off from work. The majority of these injuries come from lifting patients in and out of a bed and wheelchair.

Epigenetic heterogeneity and plasticity in therapy‐induced tumor states through single‐cell multi‐omics

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single‐cell multi‐omics reveals epigenetic heterogeneity across therapy‐adaptive tumor states, including quiescent/dormant, drug‐tolerant persister, and EMT‐like phenotypes. By linking regulatory features with state‐associated biomarkers, these approaches inform biomarker‐guided therapeutic strategies for evolving tumors.

Horizontal transfer of antibiotic resistance genes on abiotic touch surfaces: implications for public health

open access: yes, 2012
Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) is largely responsible for increasing incidence of antibiotic-resistant infections worldwide. Whilst studies have focussed on HGT in vivo, this work investigates whether the ability of pathogens to persist in the ...

Outcomes of patients with acute pulmonary embolism managed in-house vs those transferred between hospitals: a retrospective observational study

open access: yesResearch and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis
Background: Interhospital transfer (IHT) for acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is increasingly performed to improve access to advanced reperfusion therapies.
