A methodological workflow for quantitative colouration and colour pattern comparison reveals taxonomic and habitat‐level differences in the polymorphic fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra)

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, Volume 324, Issue 1, Page 34-49, September 2024.
In this study, we use the urodele Salamandra salamandra as a study model to apply an analytical approach for extracting and quantifying colour proportions and patterns variation, using the recently developed R packages patternize and recolorize, to accurately describe and compare colour distribution at both taxonomic and habitat levels.

A model for the A(H1N1) epidemic in Mexico, including social isolation Un modelo para la epidemia de A(H1N1) en México incorporando aislamiento social

open access: yesSalud Pública de México, 2011
OBJECTIVE: We present a model for the 2009 influenza epidemic in Mexico to describe the observed pattern of the epidemic from March through the end of August (before the onset of the expected winter epidemic) in terms of the reproduction number and ...

Growth–defense trade‐offs promote habitat isolation between recently‐diverged species

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 7, July 2024.
Growth–defense trade‐offs have long been implicated in tropical plant diversity, but how do these tradeoffs contribute to reproductive isolation? This study characterizes growth–defense trade‐offs between two recently diverged tropical plants and explore their role in maintaining strong habitat isolation.

Range‐wide intraspecific variation reflects past adaptation to climate in a gypsophile Mediterranean shrub

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 112, Issue 7, Page 1533-1549, July 2024.
Despite strong specialization to gypsum soils, past divergent selection related to climatic gradients has driven adaptive population differentiation in Lepidium subulatum. All populations showed high but similar plasticity to drought, indicating that selection did not act against plasticity in harsh environmental conditions.

Relación entre la densidad de anidación y el éxito reproductivo en el Piquero de Nazca (Sula granti), Isla de la Plata, Ecuador [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Multiple hypotheses have been proposed to explain the prevalence of the habit of colonial nesting in seabirds. In the Nazca bobby (Sula granti), a marine bird with colonial nesting, the reproductive success is apparently determined by factors such as ...

Effect of green infrastructure on restoration of pollination networks and plant performance in semi‐natural dry grasslands across Europe

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 5, Page 1015-1028, May 2024.
Our findings provide evidence of the necessity to enhance ecosystem functions while avoiding biotic homogenisation. Restoration programs should aim at increasing landscape connectivity which influences plant communities, pollinator assemblages and their interaction patterns.
