YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

Avoidable patterns on two letters

We examine avoidable patterns, unavoidable in the sense of \textit{D. R. Bean}, \textit{A. Ehrenfeucht} and \textit{G. F. McNulty} [Pac. J. Math. 85, 261-294 (1979; Zbl 0428.05001)]. We prove that each pattern on two letters of length at least 13 is avoidable on an alphabet with two letters.

We investigate various connections between the 0-Hecke monoid, Catalan monoid, and pattern avoidance in permutations, providing new tools for approaching pattern avoidance in an algebraic framework. In particular, we characterize containment of a class of `long' patterns as equivalent to the existence of a corresponding factorization.
