Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Large-Scale Flow Structure in Turbulent Poiseuille Flows at Low-Reynolds Numbers

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2012
Direct numerical simulations of a spectral method are performed to study the turbulent channel flow at the low-Reynolds numbers, where the quasi-laminar and turbulent regions simultaneously appear and form the stripe pattern, which is floated downstream ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Pattern formation and selection in quasi-static fracture

open access: yes, 2000
Fracture in quasi-statically driven systems is studied by means of a discrete spring-block model. Developed from close comparison with desiccation experiments, it describes crack formation induced by friction on a substrate.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Entropy Production in Reaction–Diffusion Systems Confined in Narrow Channels

open access: yesEntropy
This work analyzes the effect of wall geometry when a reaction–diffusion system is confined to a narrow channel. In particular, we study the entropy production density in the reversible Gray–Scott system.

Pattern Formation over Multigraphs

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering, 2018
Two of the most common pattern formation mechanisms are Turing-patterning in reaction-diffusion systems and lateral inhibition of neighboring cells. In this paper, we introduce a broad dynamical model of interconnected modules to study the emergence of patterns, with the above mentioned two mechanisms as special cases.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Taxis-Driven Pattern Formation in Tri-Trophic Food Chain Model with Omnivory

open access: yesMathematics
The spatiotemporal dynamics of a three-component model of a food web are considered. The model describes the interactions between populations of resources, prey, and predators that consume both species.
