Optimum Glazing Configurations for Visual Performance in Algerian Classrooms under Mediterranean Climate

open access: yesJournal of Daylighting, 2019
Daylight quality and quantity in Algerian schools show serious problems in ensuring visual comfort of students and teachers. Some problems are due to window design, which leads to excessive amount of sunlight penetration into the classrooms.

The Future of Research in Cognitive Robotics: Foundation Models or Developmental Cognitive Models?

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Research in cognitive robotics founded on principles of developmental psychology and enactive cognitive science would yield what we seek in autonomous robots: the ability to perceive its environment, learn from experience, anticipate the outcome of events, act to pursue goals, and adapt to changing circumstances without resorting to training with ...

Reading through the eyes of a university student: A double-masked randomised placebo-controlled cross-over protocol investigating coloured spectacle lens efficacy in adults with visual stress.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
BackgroundVisual stress is a reading disorder characterised by perceptual distortions, asthenopia and headache whilst reading, alongside increased sensitivity to repeated striped patterns ('pattern glare'), in the absence of underlying ocular pathology ...

Mesenchymal Stromal Cell‐Mediated Intercellular Communication: Mapping the Interactome for Skeletal Muscle Homeostasis and Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Liu et al. define a systems‐level interactome of fibroadipogenic progenitor (FAP)‐mediated signaling in skeletal muscle by integrating single‐cell transcriptomics with FAP depletion‐based perturbation analysis. Functional interrogation using a conditioned media bioassay links predicted signaling to multicellular outcomes, establishing a framework to ...

Rearview mirror glare with varying vehicle geometries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Includes bibliographical references (p. 16)The potential glare from rearview mirrors was quantified in simulated encounters using data on the locations of mirrors and headlamps, and on the photometric output of low-beam headlamps.

Malectin Alleviates Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus via Glycoprotein Quality Control Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Malectin alleviates high glucose‐induced ER stress and damage in placental trophoblasts, a function dependent on its six critical carbohydrate‐binding residues. In a GDM mouse model, administration of TAT‐Malectin ameliorated hyperglycemia and placental ER stress and prevented fetal macrosomia.

PRMT1‐Mediated LDHA Methylation Drives STAT3 Lactylation to Orchestrate Intestinal Inflammation and Tumorigenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies an immunometabolic axis wherein SAM‐driven PRMT1 methylates LDHA, enhancing its activity. The resultant lactate induces STAT3 K709 lactylation, which stabilizes an active conformation to promote STAT3 phosphorylation and IL‐10 expression.

Covalent Inhibition of SHMT2 by Gambogic Acid Induces Ferroptosis Through Mitochondrial Collapse in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, chemoproteomics combined with genetic and functional analyses was integrated to identify SHMT2 as a covalent and functional target of gambogic acid (GA) in triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC). Further validation demonstrated that GA selectively modifies the Cys241 site of SHMT2, triggering mitochondrial dysfunction, activating the Nrf2 ...
