Congestion Hot Spot Identification using Automated Pattern Recognition

2020 IEEE 23rd International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC), 2020
This paper introduces a methodology which identifies congestion hot spots for individual congestion types. The proposed algorithm first isolates coherent congested clusters out of a spatio-temporally discretized speed matrix. Then, virtually driven trajectories which pass through the respective congestion area are calculated and their speed profiles ...

Automated Pattern Recognition of Phytoplankton – Procedure and Results

Internationale Revue der gesamten Hydrobiologie und Hydrographie, 1980
AbstractPictures of phytoplankton samples were analyzed as raster images by means of a television camera and a Robotron 4200 computer. A feature vector described the objects irrespective of their angle. Each of the five genera involved were identifiable by a characteristic point cluster in a p‐dimensional feature space.

Automated Recognition of Sequential Patterns in Captured Motion Streams

2010
Motion capture data has been frequently used in computer animation and video games. Motions are often captured in a continuous manner such that a motion contains multiple patterns joined sequentially without obvious breakpoints between them. It is challenging to learn the captured motions as it requires both segmentation and recognition. In this paper,

Significance of visual limitations in automated pattern recognition applications

Pattern Recognition Letters, 1984
Man-machine interaction is critical for pattern recognition; say for automatic testing or medical diagnosis. Effective interface development requires quantitative limitations of the human visual system. A comprehensive effort to apply the theory of fuzzy sets to this system problem is outlined and illustrated.

Automated Pattern Recognition as a Temporary Replacement for Downhole Gauges

SPE Asia Pacific Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition, 2020
Abstract Automated pattern recognition with basic, high-level coding can be readily applied to petroleum production surveillance to reduce the impact of equipment failure. Machine learning is an application of regression techniques that range in complexity from simple linear regressions to convolutional neural networks.

Success potential of automated star pattern recognition

24th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1986
A quasi-analytical model is presented for calculating the success probability of automated star pattern recognition systems for attitude control of spacecraft. The star data is gathered by an imaging star tracker (STR) with a circular FOV capable of detecting 20 stars.

Automated mammogram classification using a multiresolution pattern recognition approach

Proceedings XIV Brazilian Symposium on Computer Graphics and Image Processing, 2002
In order to fully achieve automated mammogram analysis one has to tackle two problems: classification of radial, circumscribed microcalcifications, and normal samples; and classification of benign, malignant, and normal samples. How to extract and select the best features from the images for classification is a very difficult task, since all of those ...

Pattern recognition methods for automated detection and quantification

2018
<p>Pattern recognition has over past decades become a fast growing area of chemometrics. Accurate, user-friendly, and fast pattern recognition methods are desired to accommodate the increased capacity of automated instruments to obtain large-scale data under complex circumstances.

Artificial intelligence for pattern recognition in automated surface engineering

2012 International Conference on Systems and Informatics (ICSAI2012), 2012
Ability to measure the surface quality in real-time has many applications in manufacturing automation and product optimization, especially in processes in which the surface qualities such as roughness, grain size, thickness of coding, impurities size and distribution, hardness, and other mechanical properties are of importance.

Automated Pattern Recognition: Video Weld Authentication System

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
Our newly developed video weld authentication system recognizes common structural characteristics between welds. A weld fingerprint is archived for comparison at a later time to the reference weld for verification purposes. This verification procedure is performed using an IBM-PC/AT and state-of-the-art PC image-processing hardware and software.
