COSFIRE: A Brain-Inspired Approach to Visual Pattern Recognition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The primate visual system has an impressive ability to generalize and to discriminate between numerous objects and it is robust to many geometrical transformations as well as lighting conditions. The study of the visual system has been an active reasearch field in neuropysiology for more than half a century.

P‐glycoprotein modulates the fluidity gradient of the plasma membrane of multidrug resistant CHO cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...

Hybrid Approach of Ontology and Image Clustering for Automatic Generation of Hierarchic Image Database [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Networked and Distributed Computing (IJNDC), 2015
This paper proposes a hybrid approach of ontology and image clustering to automatically generate hierarchic image database. In the field of computer vision, ”generic object recognition” is one of the most important topics.

Letter-Like Shape Recognition in Preschool Children: Does Graphomotor Knowledge Contribute?

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2022
Based on evidence that learning new characters through handwriting leads to better recognition than learning through typing, some authors proposed that the graphic motor plans acquired through handwriting contribute to recognition.

Universal in vivo Textural Model for Human Skin based on Optical Coherence Tomograms

open access: yes, 2017
Currently, diagnosis of skin diseases is based primarily on visual pattern recognition skills and expertise of the physician observing the lesion. Even though dermatologists are trained to recognize patterns of morphology, it is still a subjective visual

Disruption of SETD3‐mediated histidine‐73 methylation by the BWCFF‐associated β‐actin G74S mutation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The β‐actin G74S mutation causes altered interaction of actin with SETD3, reducing histidine‐73 methylation efficiency and forming two distinct actin variants. The variable ratio of these variants across cell types and developmental stages contributes to tissue‐specific phenotypical changes. This imbalance may impair actin dynamics and mechanosensitive

ROC curves for recognition of visual patterns [PDF]

open access: yesPsychonomic Science, 1965
The confidence rating technique was used to generate z-deviate ROC curves for the recognition of one of two possible visual patterns. The patterns were O’s and Landolt rings. The mean linear slopes for each pattern pair were about 45°, but there was some evidence of downward curvilinearity.

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

The role of invariant line junctions in object and visual word recognition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Object recognition relies heavily on invariant visual features such as the manner in which lines meet at vertices to form viewpoint-invariant junctions (e.g. T, L). We wondered whether these features also underlie readers’ competence for fast recognition
