Temporal pattern recognition

IEEE International Conference on Neural Networks, 1988
A network is described that takes as its input individual incoming events. Sequences of these events (letters, phonemes, or, more abstractly, object sightings in a vision system), received by the system over time are categorized as specific sequences by the temporal system.

Cloud pattern recognition

Proceedings of the 1964 19th ACM national conference on -, 1964
Cloud cover photographs transmitted from meteorological satellites must be processed and interpreted before weather maps can be issued. Most of the routine processing can be handled by present day digital computer techniques; however, the recognition and interpretation of cloud patterns such as vortices indicating hurricanes, must still be performed by

Programming pattern recognition

Proceedings of the March 1-3, 1955, western joint computer conference on - AFIPS '55 (Western), 1955
Everyone likes to speculate, and recently there has been a lot of talk about reading machines and hearing machines. We know it is possible to simulate speech. This raises lots of interesting questions such as: If the machines can speak, will they squawk when you ask them to divide by zero?

Handwriting and pattern recognition

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1962
Handwriting can be characterized as a sequence of basic strokes connected according to rule. Handwriting so generated approximates that of humans very closely. Such a matching process can be used as the fundamental principle in a handwriting recognizer.

Pattern recognition in insects

Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 1995
After 80 years of research, the field of insect pattern recognition is about to move from the behavioral to the neuronal level. Recent experiments on bees, ants and flies indicate that pattern recognition must be seen as the recruitment of behavioral operations that help the nervous system to solve a task using a small number of potentially simple ...

On fingerprint pattern recognition

Pattern Recognition, 1978
Abstract Stochastic languages have been used for fingerprint classification(2). In this note we observe that it is not possible to classify the fingerprint patterns in the absence of accurate registration of the fingerprint. Use of features like downward fork, upward fork, end, etc. have been suggested(4) for fingerprint classification.
