Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A >70‐Myr‐Long Geomagnetic Field Reversal Hyperactivity Across the Ediacaran‐Cambrian Transition

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The long‐term variation of the geomagnetic field is a key constraint for unraveling the geodynamo processes and the evolution of Earth's deep interior.

Transcription factor Emx2 controls stereociliary bundle orientation of sensory hair cells

open access: yeseLife, 2017
The asymmetric location of stereociliary bundle (hair bundle) on the apical surface of mechanosensory hair cells (HCs) dictates the direction in which a given HC can respond to cues such as sound, head movements, and water pressure.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Price Reversal Pattern of ARV Drugs: A Transaction-Cost Approach Digression [PDF]

open access: yesExpert Journal of Economics, 2015
A price reversal pattern of ARV drugs was noted across lower and middle income countries in that the lower-income countries have higher prices relative to higher-income countries based on a 2008-2009 Summary Report by World Health Organization.

Quantitative modelling of hip fracture trends in 14 European countries: testing variations of a shared reversal over time

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Qualitative similarities between hip fracture trends in different countries suggests variations of the same epidemic. We tested a single statistical shape to describe time trends in Europe, while allowing for country-level variability. Using data from 14

Anti-fatigue Performance in SSVEP-Based Visual Acuity Assessment: A Comparison of Six Stimulus Paradigms

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2020
PurposeThe occurrence of mental fatigue when users stare at stimuli is a critical problem in the implementation of steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP)-based visual acuity assessment, which may weaken the SSVEP amplitude and signal-to-noise ratio
