DESIGN AND PROPERTIES OF HOT MIXTURE POROUS ASPHALT FOR SEMI-FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT APPLICATIONS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Semi-flexible pavement consists of selected porous asphalt mixture filled with cementitious slurry. This new type of pavement has prospects to be designed as a high deformation resistant pavement (Setyawan et al, 2001).

High Percentages of Reclaimed Asphalt Affect the Performance of Asphalt Binder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
More than 90 percent of the road and highway network in the United States is paved with asphalt concrete. Maintenance and periodic rehabilitation require a continuous supply of aggregates and asphalt binder, both of which are becoming increasingly scarce

A Systematic Comparison of Alpha‐Synuclein Seed Amplification Assays for Increasing Reproducibility

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Seed amplification assays (SAAs) enable ultrasensitive detection of misfolded α‐synuclein across biofluids and tissues. Yet, heterogeneity in protocols limits cross‐study comparability and clinical translation. Here, we review α‐synuclein SAA methods and their performance across various biological matrices.

Performance Evaluation of JPCP with Changes of Pavement Mix Design Using Pavement Management Data

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
This study aimed to analyze long-term performance of JPCP (jointed plain concrete pavement) according to changes in standard mix design using evaluation of concrete properties based on Korea HPMS (highway pavement management system) and Korea LTPP (long ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Effects of Pavement Roughness on Rigid Pavement Stress

open access: yesJournal of Mechanics, 2011
ABSTRACTPavement roughness causes pavement stress fluctuation along the road. However, the dynamic effects were not taken into account in most pavement design and studies. To investigate the influences of roadway roughness on pavement stresses, this study developed a coupled system consisting of a quarter-car model and an equivalent lump pavement model.

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control

Quality Assurance of Steel Slag Asphalt Mixtures for Sustainable Pavement Surface Courses

open access: yesRecycling
The present study investigates the use of electric arc furnace (EAF) steel slag, a by-product of the steel industry, in asphalt pavement surface courses instead of virgin aggregates (VAs).

The classification and management of limestone pavements - an endangered habitat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This thesis describes an in-depth study of limestone pavements across North West England and North Wales. The aim was to combine elements of geodiversity and biodiversity in order to create a holistic limestone pavement classification to inform future ...

Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.
