Implementing textural features on GPUs for improved real-time pavement distress detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The condition of municipal roads has deteriorated considerably in recent years, leading to large scale pavement distress such as cracks or potholes. In order to enable road maintenance, pavement distress should be timely detected.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Public Perceptions of the Midwest’s Pavements: Policies and Thresholds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
A 5-year, pooled fund study with the Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin departments of transportation assessed the public\u27s perceptions of pavement improvement strategies and developed thresholds of satisfaction using the departments\u27 physical indices,

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Using e-bikes and private cars in dynamic road pavement monitoring

open access: yesInternational Journal of Transportation Science and Technology, 2022
The high cost and time involved with traditional road pavement monitoring approaches as well as the high costs of pavement monitoring equipment necessitate the need for introducing a cheap, accurate and straightforward road pavement monitoring method ...

Analisis Kondisi Bonding Antar Lapisan Beraspal Secara Teoritis Dan Pengujian Di Laboratorium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The condition of bonding between asphalt pavement layer can influence the behaviour of pavement structure in supporting vehicle loading. In strong bonding condition, the adjacent pavement layers will act together to support pavement loading and the other

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

The Road Pavement Condition Index (PCI) Evaluation and Maintenance: A Case Study of Yemen

open access: yesOrganization, Technology and Management in Construction: An International Journal, 2017
The pavement condition index (PCI) is a simple, convenient and inexpensive way to monitor the condition of the surface of roads, identify maintenance and rehabilitation (M-and-R) needs as well as ensure that road maintenance budgets are spent wisely.
