Influence of Pavement Roughness on Tire Noise
Noise Control and Acoustics, 1999Abstract In this study, the influence of the levels of pavement roughness on tire noise is examined using Nearfield Acoustical Holography (NAH) to measure noise from single tires mounted on a two-wheel trailer towed over different types of pavements.

Influence of surface distresses on smartphone-based pavement roughness evaluation
International Journal of Pavement Engineering, 2020Pavement condition monitoring plays a pivotal role in ensuring a comfortable travel experience for road users. Pavement roughness must be accorded the highest importance as it directly influences the safety of the users and also increases vehicle ...

Impact of subgrade soils on pavement roughness
Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2016To highlight the impact of subgrade soil variability on the pseudo-profile and roughness at the end of road construction, a research program has been carried out at the Laboratoire sur les chaussées et matériaux bitumineux at École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS).

Spectral Analysis of Highway Pavement Roughness
Journal of Transportation Engineering, 1991This paper reports new findings in the spectral analysis of pavement roughness. Elevation profiles of federal and interstate highways were measured with a profilometer, and spectral analysis was used to compute power spectral densities for the longitudinal elevation of pavements.

Effect of Pavement Roughness on User Costs
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2012After the construction of a pavement system, deterioration occurs because of traffic loading and weathering action and results in the formation of various types of distresses and an increase in pavement roughness. “Roughness” can be defined as irregularities of pavement surface that affect driver safety and increase user costs, including fuel ...

Influence of roughness and cross slope induced dynamic loads on flexible pavement responses
International Journal of Pavement Engineering, 2023Among all the factors influencing flexible pavement design, vehicular loads are of prime importance. Thus the present study evaluates the dynamic wheel loads on the pavement by considering the prime factors related to the vehicle and the pavement ...

Smartphone-Based Pavement Roughness Estimation Using Deep Learning with Entity Embedding
Advances in Data Science and Adaptive Analysis, 2020The commonly used index for measuring pavement roughness is the International Roughness index (IRI). Traditional method for collecting road surface information is expensive and as such researchers over the years have resorted to other cheaper ways of ...

Pavement Roughness Data Collection and Utilization
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 1999The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is in the process of evaluating the protocols for collecting and analyzing roughness data. As part of that evaluation, a nationwide survey was performed to identify the trends and practices of various departments of transportation with regard to roughness data collection and analysis.
