The effect of layer-by-layer heterostructuring and epitaxial strain on lattice instabilities and related ferroelectric properties is investigated from first principles for the [001]-(PbTiO$_3$)$_1$(PbZrO$_3$)$_1$ superlattice and pure PbTiO$_3$ on a ...

Terahertz resonances in crystalline heterostructures could close a spectral gap between conventional electronics and photonics while opening new windows on non‐equilibrium lattice dynamics. Femtosecond optical screening of the depolarization field in epitaxial PbTiO3/SrTiO3 superlattices launches a collective polar mode that oscillates near 1 THz and ...

Nanosize confinement induced enhancement of spontaneous polarization in a ferroelectric nanowire
We theoretically showed that the spontaneous polarization in ferroelectric (FE) nanowires (NWs) can be considerably enhanced due to the nanosize confinement by the first-principles calculations.

First-principles calculations within the weighted density approximation (WDA) were performed for ground state properties of ferroelectric perovskites PbTiO$_3$, BaTiO$_3$, SrTiO$_3$, KNbO$_3$ and KTaO$_3$. We used the plane-wave pseudopotential method, a

Elastocaloric response of PbTiO3 predicted from a first-principles effective Hamiltonian [PDF]
A first-principles based effective Hamiltonian is used within a molecular dynamics simulation to study the elastocaloric effect in PbTiO3. It is found that the transition temperature is a linear function of uniaxial tensile stress.

In‐Wheel Piezoelectric DC Power Generator With Zero Resistive Torque
In this paper, we present a wheel‐shaped direct‐current piezoelectric generator (DC‐PG) that fundamentally overcomes these constraints by producing phase‐stable DC electricity directly from rolling motion. By embedding this system into suitcase wheels, we demonstrated a fully integrated real‐time location tracking system powered solely by mechanical ...
