The impact of the retained austenite in the case-hardened steels on the crater wear formation of the PcBN tools

Wear, 2021
The finishing operation of transmission components in the automotive industry is widely performed by the hard part turning process, using polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PcBN) as cutting tool material. Carburizing steels are used in shafts and gears,

Wear and tool life of tungsten carbide, PCBN and PCD cutting tools

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2006
The wear mechanisms of cutting tools made of tungsten-carbide (WC), PCBN and PCD were investigated using the tool life and temperature results available in the literature. For tool/work combinations WC/steel and PCBN/hardened-steel, under practical conditions, tool wear was found to be greatly influenced by the temperature.

Evaluation of layer adhered on PCBN tools during turning of AISI D2 steel

International Journal of Refractory Metals and Hard Materials, 2019
Polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) tools have high abrasion resistance and are thus suitable for application in the machining of steels with a high volume fraction of primary carbides in their microstructure.
