Experiments on High-Speed and Dry Cutting with PCBN Tool
Key Engineering Materials, 2010This paper deals with the High-speed Hard and Dry Cutting mechanism of hardened alloy-steel with PCBN tool: the cutting speed and workpieces temperature and tool wear are being discussed in different cutting speeds when cutting alloy-steel 42CrMo. After the workpiece temperature measured by ThermaVision, it is proved that the workpiece temperature was ...

Effect of chamfer angle on wear of PCBN cutting tool
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2003In precision hard turning, a remaining problem is to minimise tool wear to maintain the accuracy of geometry and surface finish. Tool wear not only directly reduces the part geometry accuracy but also increases cutting forces drastically. The change in the cutting forces also causes instability in the tool motion, which results in more inaccuracy. PCBN

Reducing Fracture Tendencies in PCBN FSW Tools
2009Abstract : The overall goal of this program is to increase the life of PCBN tools in friction-stir welding of high temperature metals. This will be achieved through the following objectives: (1) Understand the fundamental causes for limited lifetimes of PCBN tools during Friction-Stir Welding (FSW) of high temperature metals, including both wear and ...

Machinability of Abrasion Resistance Cast Iron with PCBN Cutting Tools
Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2008Highly abrasion and erosive resistance materials are an important group of materials and has very wide applications in many industrial areas. The characteristic properties for this material include the castability and the superior wear resistance. The material, however, is in the group of hard-to-machine materials due to its abrasion to cutting tool ...

PCBN Tool Wear Mechanism in Hard Turning Hardened Bearing Steel
Key Engineering Materials, 2006The wear pattern and mechanism during continuous hard turning GCr15 hardened bearing steel with BZN8200 PCBN cutting tool was studied. Experimental results showed that the main wear pattern is crater wear in rake face and mechanical wear in flank face, the main wear mechanism is made-up with adhesive, oxidization and diffusive wear.

Diffusion and oxidation wear of PCBN tool based on thermodynamics
Journal of Wuhan University of Technology-Mater. Sci. Ed., 2010The rules of diffusion wear and oxidation wear for PCBN cutting tools were analyzed based on thermodynamics theory. Dissolution concentrations in typical normal workpice materials of PCBN tool material at different temperature were then calculated. Diffusion reaction rules in high temperature were developed and analyzed using the Gibbs free energy ...

On machining of hardened AISI D2 steel with PCBN tools
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2006Abstract This paper describes an experimental investigation on machining of a difficult-to-cut material, AISI D2 steel of hardness 62 HRC with PCBN tools. It was found that the most feasible feeds and speeds fall in the ranges 0.08–0.20 mm/rev and 70–120 m/min, respectively and that most of the tested PCBN tools reached the end of life mainly due to ...
